About this audiobook
Do you have a favorite sports hero? If so, have you ever wondered about what kind of zany things things he or she likes to do when not competing? Have you ever wondered what the great athletes like to eat, or what they like to drink? For instance, it's a little-known fact that baseball great Babe Ruth relished the chance to wolf-down pickled eels and chocolate ice cream! Do you ever imagine what their childhoods were like? This fascinating book answers all these questions and many more you might never have even thought to ask! Featuring inspiring stories and wacky trivia about 20 different world-class athletes, this book by Kathleen Krull is sure to get young sports-fans excited about reading. "While readers will find out about the subjects' most prodigious physical feats, it's what else they'll learn about them that propels this title above most other books published in this subject area."-School Library Journal

- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5Love this series of collective biographies!
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5I recommend this book to all of my young sports fans with the knowledge that it may not contain the facts they are seeking, and it certainly doesn't offer photographs and illustrations they may hope for. For students interested in personal trivia, this edition may be just perfect. I particularly like the way Krull balances men and women in her portrayals.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5The book is visually pleasing and has an eye-catching cover. Kathryn Hewitt's watercolor/colored pencil portraits are the highlight of the series and the thick white glossy paper with ample margins make the presentation reader friendly. Each of the 20 biographies is well written, informative and holds interest because they are relatively short (2-3 pages) and the focus is on the physical accomplishments of the athlete. Additionally, each bio briefly examines the quirks and exploits of each individual in everyday life. An asset for the middle school library with the other 5 series titles: women, artists, musicians, presidents and writers.
