This is my favorite Agatha Christie novel. This is what Agatha Christie does best. Set up a murder in a typical English village, have a cast of interesting suspects, and a satisfying solution!

I read this years ago, and when I finished it I threw it across the room in disgust. But my book club was looking for a challenging mystery, so I suggested this. Let me just say this - unreliable narrator. Probably best example I have ever read. So I read it again, knowing the ending, just to see what sense I could make of it. The ending still made me mad!

Audiobook. Very short, but good. The sound effects and narration were top notch. The story was well done.

I liked this book, it was very interesting and I liked the pov. Also, I like the locked door mystery!

I read this well over 30 years ago and I remember giving it to my mother to read (she had never read Christie) who said " ---- Did It!" I wanted to know how she knew that and she told me "Because that's the person who there was nothing written about!" So, go figure....

I also liked the fact that Poirot wasn't his usual braggart self, pretty low key....

If you only ever read one book by Agatha Christie read this one. It is rightly considered her masterpiece as she subverts the genre without comprising the narrative.

Abridged on three CDs, and read by Nigel Anthony. A famous Poirot story, but one I'd never read before. Beautifully pulled off, although I suspect it suffers a little from the abridgement. Even with the abridgement issues, I loved this. And that's all I'm going to say about it.

The grand daddy of murder mysteries!Forget the purist whims of the denoument "not being fair". How many of the readers have a personal favourites in detective fiction which they deem to be "fair", whatever that may mean?No matter how old this book is, it always seems to be continually on the list of the rookie reader - and ,lets face it, history has treated the book with much more respect than the critics who hauled the book over in 1926.

In Agatha Christie's fourth book to feature Hercule Poirot, we see the detective as retired from taking cases, moving to a new village, King's Abbott, and away from Captain Hastings. Even with Hastings gone, Agatha Christie continues the third person narrative of the case, utilizing Dr. James Sheppard, a resident of King's Abbott. Another terrific book from the master of mystery. This book will leave you tossing and turning as you try to solve the case of who killed Roger Ackroyd.

waw, what an ending. Poirot, and thus succeedingly madame Christie herself, are so incredibly clever in this book that as a reader one can only feel silly and stupid for not finding the murderer or Roger Ackroyd before it's plainly laid out in front of your eyes.

As always, lovely English, great characters, wonderful suspense and interesting from the first to the last page. Agatha Christie is a star.

I hadn't read an Agatha Christie novel since my mid-teens, and I was quite prepared to find this book old-fashioned and trite. To my delighted surprise, the writing is crisp and occasionally tongue-in-cheek, with some great characters, amongst which Poirot in great form (Maggie Smith should be cast as Mrs. Ackroyd if a film is made of this book). As a detective novel, it is a tour de force - saying more would be a spoiler.

I love this one. Another of the ones I just reread. A county squire type fellow is found stabbed in the back in his study. His fiance has recently died of an overdose after being blackmailed into desperation. The story is told by the village doctor, a confidante of the dead man. The local police are stumped. But new village resident, Mr. Porrott, turns out to be none other than the great detective himself who comes out of retirement to take this case.

The best of all of her books that I have read so far. A very quick read. I could hardly put it down. A very clever, surprising ending. I thoroughly enjoyed this one from start to finish.

Hugh Fraser's narration is perfect for this, one of my favorite Christie mysteries. Even knowing the solution, I find it a compelling story and look for all the subtle clues Christie has embedded in the narrative.

I often find Agatha Christie mysteries to be quite cliched, but of course that's because everyone has imitated her since. This one was probably the best I've read. A retired Poirot solving a case that leaves you guessing until the end. I really had no clue as to who the killer was, which was highly unusual for me. Enjoy.

When I pick up something by Agatha Christie, I know it's going to be good. The narrator is instantly fascinating, especially as he describes his investigations with the fastidious little Belgian (who the narrator hilariously thinks is a hairdresser upon meeting!). I wish I had counted the number of times "little grey cells" appeared in this book - far more than the other Poirot mysteries I have read!

This one started slower for me but by the end I was 😳😳😳. Had my suspicions but they were never on the actual culprit. This was my first adventure with Poirot and I can't wait to see what else he has in store. So excited that my A.C. Collection is growing. 🌟🌟🌟🌟

This mystery was kind of boring after reading the Orient Express. Although I enjoyed trying to figure out who did it. I suggest that you don't read this book right after The Muder on the Orient Express.

I loved it...started to have my suspicions, but really wasn't sure, just thought I was reaching. It was brilliant, the reconstruction made me want to go back and find the clues. This was tried by another author I recently read and it was terrible.... never try to imitate Christie...nobody does it better.

Hastings has unapologetically disappeared from the the series! Poirot has retired to the countryside to garden; but the death of a local woman sets off a domino cascade of intrigue. We're not counting teacups (cf The Mysterious Affair at Styles); but we are to keep watch on the time! Robin Bailey is spot on as the village doctor from whose point of view the story is told.

In some ways a classic English country house murder mystery, this book is also something more. Towards the end, the story becomes something more complex as Dr Sheppard's account of events following the murder of Roger Ackroyd take on a more sinister and psychological aspect. Even if you know the twist ending, it's pulled off with such style that it's worth waiting for.

I didn't see the twist coming at the end. I think it'll be interesting to re-read the book knowing who the murderer is. I also liked the interesting characters that are portrayed in the story. There were lots of funny moments.

Wow... Now that was a real surprise at the end!I generally like Agatha Christie novels, and have read quite a number of them, but I had never read this one yet. I really liked it, it keeps you guessing every time some new piece of evidence is found, and in the end, I still had no clue. Very skillfully done and well-written.

I’d never read her before, despite having a lot of her books in the house as a kid (my mom is a fan), but at three for HK$90, I figured I’d take a shot. It’s pretty good – seems about what you’d expect for a Brit whodunit, but I have to say I never saw the ending coming. Good stuff, but I don’t know if I’m going to be buying her entire back catalogue any time soon.

Take my advice: DO NOT READ ANY REVIEWS BEFORE READING THIS BOOK. Thankfully, I had forgotten what I had read about this book in the past, so my reading experience was phenomenal. You really do not want to be spoiled, a state that is particularly difficult to avoid if you try to dig up much about this book. Agatha is queen, and this is one of her best. That is all you need (and want) to know!

This was one of the first mystery novels I read, almost 20 years ago, and it’s ending got me hooked on the adventures of the detective Hercule Poirot until I exhausted them.
