Описание

Veronica Fisher is devastated when her fiancé, Seth, is killed in an accident at work. Seth's friend, Jason Huyard, was with him and blames himself for Seth's death. Although Jason has never met Veronica, he feels as if he knows her because Seth talked about her constantly. After the accident, he can't seem to get Veronica out of his mind.

Two months later, Veronica is cleaning the attic and comes across her mother's old hope chest. She finds an old recipe and soon discovers that baking helps her cope with her grief, so she opens a bake stand to sell her pies.

Jason starts visiting the stand weekly and their friendship grows, but Veronica isn't ready to court again. And Jason harbors his secret regret of not being able to save Seth.

Veronica's mother must convince her that she can't completely give up on love. But when the truth is revealed, can Veronica forgive Jason for not telling her that he was there on that fateful day?

The Forgotten Recipe is a remarkable story about healing after a loss, finding love again, and having faith that things happen for a reason. My heart reached out to both Veronica and Jason as they each grieved the death of Seth. Veronica finds a recipe book in her Mamm‘s hope chest which she uses to make pies to sell at a roadside stand. Jason becomes a regular customer and together they begin to heal. What an astonishingly heart-stirring spectacular beginning to Amy’s new Heirloom series. She is a writer of Amish fiction that is always a delight to read. I received a complimentary copy (or ARC) of this book from the author via NetGalley. I was under no obligation to write a review, and all options expressed in this review are completely my own.

I adore anything by Clipston, and she has never disappointed me. This series is compelling from the start - so glad I don't have to wait for book two!

When I go to look for a new series for Amish. I looked for my favorite authors. I do go to others I have not read about that I will expand to enjoy. I know when I see a book written by Amy Clipston. I really enjoy any kind of Amish or Mennonite stories. I love learning about their lifestyles.Veronica Fisher finds out that her intended died. She was divested and thinks she will not find love again. Well, she decides she'd need to find something to do and when she goes decides to go look in the attic. When she does, she finds something of her grandmothers. This starts up her own kind of business. Are you into Amish lifestyle? Then this would be a good book to read or even try.

This is a book speaking of tragedy and then hope.

After an accident took her fiance, Veronica thought she’d never love again, until Jason. Jason falls hard for Veronica, too, however, in the quick process of falling in love with her, he neglects to share a key piece of information, the explanation for how he seems to know her so well over such a short time period isn’t so much kismet or observation skills, it’s because Jason was her fiance’s best friend. I struggled a bit with Jason. Not only does he have this lie of omission happening with Veronica, he also kind of strings along Mary rather than have the courage (and decency) to simply say he wasn’t interested. It makes Jason seem spineless which isn’t the most attractive quality. My struggle with Jason led to a struggle with the overall premise as well since it almost entirely hinges on Jason keeping this secret for what to me amounted to flimsy reasoning. I would have understood if Jason had held back his connection to Seth’s death due to a sense of guilt or fear that she would blame him and be unable to forgive him. But why not be upfront about being Seth’s best friend? Because it would be a downer, it would make her think of Seth and that makes her sad? Well, she was already down, already sad, logically, you’d think having someone so important in common, mourning him together would help her. Also, it struck me as questionable that Veronica didn’t really know her fiance’s best friend’s name. Had Jason merely been a colleague, and a new colleague at that, it would have been easier to swallow that his name wouldn’t have triggered something in her right away. While I would have liked sturdier motivation for the secret and more going on in the story than just that, like maybe a slightly deeper dive into Veronica’s entrepreneurship, there is a nice, feel-good quality to this book with characters who for the most part prove compassionate in the way they support and encourage one another, so if you’re craving a sense of kindness, this does deliver on that.

Monday, February 8, 2016The Forgotten Recipe by Amy Clipston, © 2015The Amish Heirloom Series, Book 1Veronica Fisher has a lot of hobbies and proficiencies ~ skipping stones, and a new-found favorite ~ a raspberry pie recipe from previous generations, saved in an heirloom trunk. There is another recipe that you will find will open a lot of doors with a sweet savor. Discover it as you enjoy Amy Clipston's An Amish Heirloom Novel.I enjoyed getting to meet the protagonists, Veronica Fisher and Jason Huyard and their families. I especially liked that they confided in their elders for advise, and among their siblings. How refreshing to have the openness to be heard and to hear. Their exchanges were greeted with listening thoroughly and the confidence of a reply beneficial to them from experience and godly wisdom.Pies, jams, relish, and pickles are favorites at Veronica's roadside bake stand. The peach salsa they eat up at the house sounds yummy too. Jason and his bruder, Stephen, go to buy pies for their mamm. Unknown to Jason, this is the home of the Veronica he had been searching for, the fiancée of his best friend, Seth Lapp, who recently died in an accident on their job. Seth had spoken of Veronica so often, Jason felt as if he knew her. Seeing her the night at Lapp's, he wanted to find her to offer his condolences and felt responsibility for Seth.As they come across each other at gatherings, Jason is drawn to Veronica and finds it difficult to talk to her about Seth, not wanting to add to her sorrow. As time spans on, it becomes increasingly harder for fear of losing her friendship because he hadn't told her from the beginning that he had known Seth.Excellent introduction of everyone, very fluidly as if we are walking alongside them. I wanted to tell Jason, "Just tell her." Difficult to do when you want to be known for yourself and the time has passed and you didn't say.I look forward to the next book in this series.***Thank you to author Amy Clipston for sending me a print copy of The Forgotten Recipe for review. This review was written in my own words. No other compensation was received.***Watch for Book 2 in The Amish Heirloom Series releasing in July 2016 ~ The Courtship Basket

Title: The Forgotten Recipe (Amish Heirloom #1)Author: Amy ClipstonPages: 320Year: 2015Publisher: ZondervanMy rating is 5 out of 5 stars.Amish stories can be vastly as different as apples are to oranges, so too are the authors that craft the tales. I am new to Amy Clipston’s writing and am now hooked on her books, not because they take place in Amish communities or the characters are Amish. I enjoy her books because she tells a wonderful story that has meat in it. In other words, there is depth in the plot, characters and community. In the first book of this particular series, we meet the two main characters, Veronica Fisher and Jason Huyard. What ties these two people together might surprise you. They share the loss of a man named Seth. To one he was a fiancé and to the other his best friend. Both Veronica and Jason bear a deep grief and also guilt for Seth’s accidental death at work. Though neither one is truly responsible, it was just a horrible accident. Accident or no there are ripple effects in these two hearts as well as their families, coworkers and community. As readers progress through the book, hearts will be tugged by the grief shown and shared, and also uplifted by the fun times with others. Veronica finds something out about herself through the book and Jason is learning that love means sometimes waiting patiently. Sounds simple until one reads that there is something not revealed yet, but occasionally referred to in the story. At the end of the book, I guarantee you won’t want to wait to find out what is going on that hasn’t been revealed. So, be prepared to read the next book in the series, The Courtship Basket.I am looking forward to seeing how the author reveals either another layer of the mystery planted in book one or revealing the mystery as a whole. I cannot wait to see what happens with these families and the community!

The forgotten recipe is about a newly found old recipe that Veronica’s grandmother used to make. This recipe turns out to be a great hit with everyone, and is the catalyst to bringing the main two characters together.Jason Huyard’s mother hears about this wonderful pie and wants her sons to get her some from a sweet Amish girl Veronica Fisher, and thus the story of a new relationship begins. Not an easy path, this is one that has a shared grief of loosing a future husband and a best friend. Both having nightmares of how they maybe could have saved Seth’s life, even though they both know that it was his time and God called him home. The path is not going to be easy to place these two together, there is another girl who seems to be very interested in Jason. There are also some deep secrets that are being withheld and then some almost insurmountable times to have told the truth that seem to have been missed. This is a quick and entertaining read, and you really won’t know until the end what will happen, and I felt I was left with a cliffhanger when another secret is partially revealed, but not all the answers.I received this book through Net Galley and the Publisher Zondervan, and was not required to give a positive review.

The Forgotten Recipe is the latest book by Amy Clipston. It is an Amish Heirloom Novel. Veronica Fisher is devastated over the loss of her fiancé, Seth Lapp. He died in an accident at work. She has been unable to move forward nor is she grieving properly. Veronica has kept herself busy cleaning. She sets out to clean the families’ attic and discovers a beautiful hope chest. Inside the trunk she finds a recipe for her grandmother’s raspberry pie recipe. Veronica quits cleaning the attic to go off and try the recipe. It turns out to be a success and quite popular with locals and tourists. Jason Huyard works at the Lancaster Shed Company (owned by his father and uncle). Seth Lapp was his best friend and co-worker. Jason was there when Seth feel to his death. He is having a hard time dealing with the loss of his friend. He has been thinking quite a bit about Veronica. Seth talked about her all the time and Jason feels like he knows her. His mother sends him to buy a raspberry pie and discovers Veronica. Jason does not tell her that he knew Seth (big mistake). Slowly Jason and Veronica spend time together and get to know each other. Veronica is hesitant at first because she had made a promise to love only Seth when he proposed. Veronica and Jason have something special. But can Jason’s secret ruin their relationship? Will Veronica ever be able to trust again? The Forgotten Recipe is a lovely novel. It is well written and heartwarming. It is about love, soul mates, forgiveness and trust (and a good pie recipe). It is the type of book that you want to read on a cold winter evening in front of a fireplace. I give The Forgotten Recipe 4.5 out of 5 stars. You cannot go wrong with one of Amy Clipston’s novels. They are always enjoyable to read and they draw the reader into the story. The story is left with a cliffhanger (or a secret not revealed). We now have to wait for the next book. That is the only thing I found frustrating. I wish everything had been wrapped up in this book (though I do understand why the author did it). I received a complimentary copy of The Forgotten Recipe from NetGalley (and the publisher) in exchange for an honest review.

In the book THE FORGOTTEN RECIPE we are introduced to Veronica Fisher. She is a very kind and sweet young lady. Her life is simple and she is happy about her upcoming marriage to Seth. Seth is very loyal and hardworking. It sounds like an idealic life until tragedy strikes. Veronica must now deal with her loss and it becomes almost to much for her. I liked the way the author wrote with compassion the emotional struggle Veronica had while trying to move on with her life. The author does a great job of sharing Veronica's deep hurt and loneliness that she can't shake. She finds chores to do to keep herself busy. One day she decides to clean the attic. She finds a chest that will lead to her a new beginning and open doors for her heart to heal. Jason was Seth's best friend and was with him with the tragedy occurs. He feels guilt over the accident and wants to find Seth's fiancé to express his deep condolences and make sure she is doing ok. When they meet at Veronica's bake stand, Jason is immediately attracted to her. He can't bring himself to tell her who he really is. As their feelings start to grow, Jason knows he must tell Veronica the truth. The story starts will a recipe that had been stored away for years and weaves a tale of hope, faith, forgiveness and love that grows with each passing day. What happens when a secret is found out? Will the secret destroy a relationship? Can Veronica find love again and learn to trust? THE FORGOTTEN RECIPE is an emotional journey of two young people who will learn to follow their heart , let go of the past and focus on the future. I look forward to the next book in the series called THE COURTSHIP BASKET. I received a copy of this book from The Fiction Guild for an honest review.
