About this audiobook

Kayla Moore has always been comfortable with her feisty, man-eating reputation. At least it was fine until she hit her thirties and saw her best friends Stephanie and Nicola settle down with Linden and Bram McGregor, leaving Kayla as the odd one out. Tired of being the third wheel with nothing but one-night stands and dead-end dates in San Francisco, Kayla decides to take a vow of celibacy and put men on the back burner. But she finds herself wavering the moment she lays her eyes on Linden and Bram's cousin, hot Scot Lachlan McGregor. With a steely gaze and successful rugby career back in Edinburgh, Lachlan is the kind of man that makes her want to throw her vow right out the window.

It isn't until the two of them are thrown together one long, unforgettable night that Kayla realizes that there is so much more to this brooding macho man than what meets the eye. But even with sparks flying between the two, Lachlan can't stay in America forever. Now, Kayla has to decide whether to uproot her whole life and chance it all on someone she barely knows or risk getting burned once again.Contains mature themes.

Karina Halle may be my favorite romance writer atm. Loved all the books in the series. This one had the most depth and emotions.

I was really anticipating this book. The last couple of books of Karina's that I read were some really good books. I counted down the days waiting for this one. Although, I liked this book, I didn't love it. It wasn't the whirlwind I had hoped. It was GOOD. And many others are loving it. This just may not have been the book for me.

Both Kayla and Lachlan are characters that you fall for from the start. They are chasing their own demons and their paths cross through mutual friends. It's hard not to get swept up in their lives and their attraction to one another.

I usually love a slow building story. I don't like when things click right off the bat. This, is a slower building story. The circumstances of these characters force it to be slower. However, once it happens, it happens. I had a hard time with that. I almost got whiplash from the slow movement right into the nitty gritty. The transformation itself happened too fast for me.

Who doesn't fall for a story where the main characters both have so much inner turmoil and find solace in each other, meanwhile fighting to not have too much of a connection? This is usually a recipe for one heck of a ride. This one is really no different. I think my main drawback with this story was it was too long. Their story just kept going and going. I eventually lost interest in the story.

Overall, this is a good book. I know many of you will absolutely love it. Karina is a wonderful writer and always seems to hit it home for those who read her books. Don't let my pessimism shy you away from giving this book a chance.
