About this audiobook

Phoebe has loved Jake Pierce since childhood and that love continues without hesitation while she watches him create a financial dynasty. But when Phoebe learns that her husband's triumphs are the result of an elaborate Ponzi scheme, her world unravels. Lies underpin her life and marriage. And as Jake's crime is uncovered, the world obsesses over her: Did she know her gilded life was fabricated by fraud? Did she partner with her husband to hustle billions from pensioners, charities, and CEOs? Was she his accomplice in stealing from their friends and neighbors? In the aftermath of Jake's deception, Phoebe faces an unbearable choice: if she remains at his side, her children refuse to see her, but abandoning the man she loves feels impossible.

Phoebe meets Jake when she is fifteen years old. Her parents wildly disapprove of the relationship because Jake is older than Phoebe, they want Phoebe to make a life of her own before marrying, and at the end of the day her mother just doesn't like Jake. Nothing will stop the two from being together and soon they are married. Jake wants to prove to the world that he is better than his parents failures and aims high in the brokerage arena. He starts out small with Phoebe's uncle, but his dreams will not be shoved aside. Jake will stop at nothing to have fame and an endless supply of money. The Pierce's have everything. Phoebe is the doting wife, willing to stand by Jake's side and do whatever it takes to help him achieve his dreams. She has attended endless evenings out, solicited for clients to join Jake's side business known as The Club, raised two perfect children, and kept a physique any woman would be jealous of, all to ensure Jakes happiness. Jake has created a financial dynasty and Phoebe trusts him endlessly. That trust is rock solid until the market starts to crash and suddenly Jake's web of lies and deceit is coming undone. It comes out that for years Jake has been running a Ponzi scheme, taking money from those who have invested with him and ultimately losing everything. The world begins to obsess over The Pierce family and suddenly their lives are centerstage in the media. How did Phoebe's life come to this and now that Jake is locked away in Prison, what will she do?THE WIDOW OF WALL STREET is a glance into the lives of the Pierce family, who stood by the patriarch, Jake, as he took the world by storm with his financial success by running a Ponzi scheme unbeknownst to those around him. I absolutely loved the beginning of this book. I loved getting to know fifteen year old Phoebe and watching her grow up, be surprised by the world, and then create her own plan to get what she wanted. The story started to get a bit boring for me in the middle as the Pierce's lives played out. I enjoyed the parts where Jake reminded me a bit of Don Draper in his wily ways, but the story of Phoebe's life and Jake's ambition didn't hold my attention. Of course, I was immediately sucked back in when things went south for the Pierce's. I don't think that my feelings of boredom are any reflection on the book itself, but stem solely from the fact that I typically read thrillers, so my mind is always looking for that high when reading. What Meyers' has created in THE WIDOW OF WALL STREET is a fascinating look in to a family come undone and how they face the dark truths of their past and present to create a life that feels whole again. This book certainly packs the drama and I wouldn't hesitate recommending it to fans of literary fiction.A special thank you to GetRedPR and Atria Books for providing me a free copy of this book in exchange for my honest review.

I was not sure what to expect with a Ponzi Wall Street money scheme story. This is not my normal reading material, usually, I would pass on it but since Randy Susan Meyers wrote the book and I am a fan of hers I gave it a try and love it. I was in a reading funk and it got me right out of it. I devoured each page, couldn’t stop reading and felt connected to the characters. I needed Phoebe to stand up for herself and do what was right for her. The children were a small part of the story but I love that they were strong, smart, and willing to protect themselves. I wanted Jake to realize he messed up and admit it. Randy Susan Meyers takes the young love of two 15-year-olds and shows how it can grow stronger as they marry, have kids, and grow old together. Phoebe and Jake wanted it all from a young age. They wanted true love, successful careers, amazing kids, and a life together. While they got it all there was also secrets, darkness, and trouble in their relationship. This is a love story, the story of a man wanting to have it all and share it all with his family. But it is also a look at the trouble that money can cause. Once Jake got a taste of money he just wanted more and more. He was always thinking he’d catch up, have enough, be happy enough but it just never happen and he got caught. Jake was portrayed as a guy who didn’t start out to be shady, he wanted to be successful and provide for his family and then it just snowballed on him. Yet, he never admitted he was wrong. He never accepted that he messed up and because of that he never let his wife go. He expected her to stand by him and to go down with him. Phoebe was wonderful. She stood by her man, took the brunt of the world outside of prison, and stayed strong. I want to believe that was love but I really think it was because she didn’t know who she was without Jake. She was always Jake’s girlfriend or Jake’s wife. She didn’t know how to be Phoebe. I enjoyed seeing her becoming strong, becoming self-sufficient and figuring out how to be without the man who gave her everything. The Wall Street Widow is a story about money, greed, love, betrayal and so much more. I loved the entire story from beginning to end. Pick up your copy immediately.

Wow, wow, wow!!!I absolutely loved this book! Phoebe was practically a widow when she married Jake, the man she had been attached to since the tender age of 15. It was always about him. Everything. He was never home and even when he was home, he was only physically there.Phoebe seemed to be just the eye candy that Jake needed to attract his "investors". Allowing her to attend events when it benefited him only. How in the heck did Jake get away with all this and for over a decade? What an arse he turned out to be. He was a horrible dad, as well. I was mesmerized by this book. The building of Phoebe and Jake's lives together, the construction of Jake's investing empire and the catastrophic failure of his pipe dream.I wanted so many times to slap some sense into Phoebe, especially at the end of the book. So many times I screamed "why" at her. Of course, she didn't hear me. Ha!! All of my emotions were riled by this magnificent story.I sped right through this book neglecting everything else around me, except, of course, the beautiful day happening right outside my opened garage door.An excellent read that should definitely be on everyone's TBR pile.I have been wanting to read this book since before it came out last year. Alas, it was not to happen. Until I signed up to win a copy of the book from the author a few weeks ago. I was psyched when I won. I was really psyched to discover when I received the book that it was a hardcover and signed by the author!!! Double Psych!!!!Thanks to the author, (many, many thanks) for providing me with a free signed hard cover!! As I said, I review all books I read and I was delighted to do so for this book.

OK book about a Bernie Madoff-type character, focusing on the wife's reaction to her husband's duplicity and her life after his downfall.

'The Widow of Wall Street' tells the story of Phoebe and Jake, their humble beginnings and the destruction of their lives (and many others) because of decades long financial treachery. The plot is loosely based on the Bernie Madoff scandal with the focus on the wife's point of view - what did she know, was she complicit, did she live in total ignorance? Those are the questions that Randy Susan Meyers asks and answers in her novel. The early story fleshed out both Phoebe and Jake very well - their families, values and why they wed at age 19. These early chapters set up the larger plot very well. However, this is where the story faltered. Phoebe and Jake became one dimensional; the reader doesn't really understand why Jake did what he did other than for greed and how his scheme grew out of control. Chapters are told from different perspectives but it falls flat as almost every chapter is told from Phoebe's perspective but her view doesn't add much to the story. By the end of the book, Phoebe has changed when her reputation is gone along with her money, wealth and position. Unfortunately, I didn't feel much sympathy for her or believe any of her actions. The graceful lady of the mansion became a bitter, cussing woman who stood by her man at the expense of her son.I kept waiting for more from the story - more feeling, more tension, more evolution of the characters. Time passed but the characters didn't seem to grow; they just aged and lived a more elaborate lifestyle. When all is said and done, greed drove Jake but i can't figure out what drove Phoebe.I heard the author speak and she is a firecracker! She's counseled abusive men in a prior career and she did an excellent job of capturing their excessive excuses in Jake's behavior and dialogue. Meyers said that when she read about Bernie Madoff in the papers soon after the story broke, that she immediately thought about the wife and she knew. This is how 'The Widow of Wall Street' was conceived!

Another enjoyable read by this author. Loosely based on the Madoff scandal. Delves into the family dynamics of the creator of the Ponzi scheme.

THE WIDOW OF WALL STREETRANDY SUSAN MEYERMY RATING ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️▫️PUBLISHERAtria BooksPUBLISHEDApril 11, 2017An evocative story full of deception and greed, and a woman's ability to survive the devastation.SUMMARYPhoebe is hates visiting Jack in prison. Phoebe and Jack Pierce have known each other since they were fifteen-year-old teenagers in Brooklyn. They eventually married, when Phoebe was nineteen-years-old. Jack starts up an investment brokerage firm, Jake Pierce Equity, and he promises Phoebe wealth and riches. And he delivers. They move out of Brooklyn, to a house in Greenwich Connecticut on the ocean, and then to a Manhattan penthouse. Phoebe doesn't really care about the expensive lifestyle, she would rather be working at the nonprofit, Mira Stein Settlement House on the Lower East Side. But Jake has an image to keep up, he doesn't want her to work, and over the years, she grows accustom to the high life.Jakes clients are happy with the returns from Jake's investments. The financial community is amazed at the returns he's able to achieve. No one can figure out how he's doing it and he's not telling anyone his secret. Even when the economy collapses Jake's investors are still getting returns, good returns. It doesn't make sense. Nor should it. It's all a Ponzi's scheme, and it had gone on for years. But when the Feds finally start asking questions, everything falls apart. Now he is where he is after swindling all their family and friends. But what about Phoebe? Did she know what he was doing? How did Jake's dishonesty affect her and their two children? How could Jake do this? Why did he do it?REVIEWRandy Susan Meyer has written a compelling and powerful story, just like something out of the headlines. But the real story is not Jake's deception and greed. It's about Phoebe and their two children and the effect of his actions on them. How can they ever raise their heads and look at their friends again. It's so immensely humiliating. You feel it. THE WIDOW OF WALL STREET at its core is intensely thought-provoking. Phoebe faced difficult decisions. She had been married to this man for over 45 years. They had raised two children together. She had always stood by his side. But could she continue to do so? What will it cost her if she does? How much would you be willing to forgive?A well-written book that will keep you reading until late into the night! I listened to the Audible version of this book and thought the narrator, Susan Bennett's performance was fabulous . This was my first book by Randy Susan Meyer, but I'm intrigued enough by her writing and subject matter to read more. She's also written: Accidents of Marriage (2015), The Comfort of Lies (2014) and the Murderer's Daughter (2011)

Phoebe always was a girl who loved her books, and she found a husband who also loved his books, but a different kind than Phoebe loved.Phoebe loved her school books, Jake loved his books that showed his money growing.

Phoebe married Jake at a young age, and Jake said he would always take care of her. Jake's parents had been in some sort of trouble, and Phoebe's mother never liked him.THE WIDOW OF WALL STREET follows Phoebe and Jake from their teenage years, through the years of marriage, and through the crisis ranging from 1960 to 2010.As Jake's empire grew, Phoebe became dragged in as well, but only by talking up her husband's business and how well it was doing. The years went by, and Jake made money, but he was in over his head most of the time. When Jake's empire tumbles, Phoebe, the loyal, compliant wife, tumbles with him.Readers who enjoy women's fiction, drama, and a strong female character will enjoy this book.

Ms. Meyers' marvelous writing pulls the reader into the high stakes of Wall Street, the power and lives of the wealthy, and reminds us of the saying: “Money is the root of all evil. “

I enjoyed THE WIDOW OF WALL STREET along with its tense moments and a truly thoughtful ending.ENJOY if you read this book. 5/5
