About this audiobook
Inspired by her past sleuthing successes, Juliet Langley has officially joined the ranks of Nashville's licensed private investigators. Her best friend, Pete Bennett, doesn't worry that her detective work might interfere with her full-time job running his coffeehouse, Java Jive. He just wishes she would spend her free time rejoining the local music scene instead of tailing cheating spouses. But when one of Java Jive's baristas, Shane, asks Juliet to look into the suspicious death of his fiancee, Pete encourages her to plow full steam ahead.
Since his fiancee died on the job, Shane suspects that her party-planning colleagues are up to something criminal-and will do anything to keep it quiet. After Juliet recruits Pete to go undercover with her at a wedding showcase, she discovers that white lace and black satin have a way of hiding big, fat secrets.
If that weren't enough to fill her plate, her latest P.I. job has her crossing paths with her ex, Detective Ryder Hamilton. They're barely on speaking terms, but to solve the case, they might have to cooperate. No matter where Juliet goes, she's brewing up trouble.

- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5This was a good addition to the Java Jive Mystery series, but not the best in the series. I enjoyed the first three books more than this one.
It is book four in the series. Juliet has recently received her PI license and is working with a friend's agency. She also maintains her job managing the coffee shop. She has a steady boyfriend, Pete has a steady girlfriend. And then Ryder shows up. Cue the awkward love triangles. I get that Juliet still has feelings for Ryder, but after the way he behaved in previous books, I don't understand why she would want him anymore.
This book tries to solve two mysteries. Who killed Shane's fiancée and also, what shady things are going on at Wonder-Gen Fabrications. The Wonder-Gen case is for the PI agency, but the murder case is personal.
I felt like this book tried to cover too much ground. It would have been better if there was only one mystery to focus on. Keeping everybody straight, remembering which suspect belonged to which case, it all began to get a little complicated. Juliet's love life is a problem too. She is dating John, starting to have feelings again for Ryder, and still has an odd relationship with Pete. I think it is time for her to settle down with one guy.
I enjoyed the beginning of the book very much. It felt like reconnecting with old friends. By the end of the book, I was getting tired and ready to move on.
I received a free ARC from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. - Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5Inspired by her past sleuthing successes, Juliet Langley has officially joined the ranks of Nashville’s licensed private investigators. Although her best friend, cafe owner, and boss Pete, does not mind her sleuthing, he wants her to get back to her music career, not spend her time working as a PI. Having said that, it doesn't stop him from jumping in with both feet to help Jules solve the cases she is working on. Juliet’s first official case is to collect evidence of a cheating husband - and that gets Juliet accused of stabbing him! There are two different cases happening in this book. When one of her staff, Shane, loses his fiancee to an overdose, he is adamant that she did not do drugs and that she was killed. He asks her to investigate and prove that it was murder before the police close the case. In her PI job, she is working for a partner in a small metal fabricating company. He wants to find out where the influx of money is coming from that his partner is infusing into the company. With two law enforcement officials in her life, her present boyfriend and her ex, she gets more information given to her than the normal PI. She is also still having feelings, even though she does not want to, for Ryder, her ex.
This is a fun series. The story has great characters, several of whom have secrets that will be uncovered as the story progresses. We don't see much of Gertie in this story and I missed her sarcasm and wit but I know she is still around and I look forward to seeing her again in the next story. This story is a crazy, fun, light, mystery packed with humour, murder, misdirection and romance! I recommend this one to any cozy mystery lover. - Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Brew or Die: A Java Jive Mystery

But when baristas, Shane, asks Juliet to look into the death of his fiancée, Pete encourages her to get involved.
Shane suspects that his fiancée’s her party-planning colleagues are up to their ears in criminal activity and will do anything to keep it quiet, even murder. Juliet is a great investigator, many times she is ahead of the police. When her friend and fellow PI, Maya asks her to join her team, Juliet jumps at the chance. Maya has faith in Juliet and doesn’t hesitate to throw her in at the deep end, or interfering in her love life. Her British resolve and outlook on life allow Juliet to excel at her new career. However, while Maya is away all hell breaks loose, and she finds herself not only trying to find a murderer, she is handed an embezzlement case, her first solo investigation. Nothing goes right, and before long she finds herself deeply involved with several criminals and her former boyfriend Ryder Hamilton, a man she never wanted to see again.
Pete isn’t happy when Ryder reappears in Juliet’s life. Pete makes certain that Juliet knows how he feels about the situation but nothing is as it seems and Juliet finds that she cannot confide in her best friend. Even in the midsts of his own grief, Pete cares enough about Juliet’s emotions and well being to be worried and concerned while at the same time wanting to be involved in her investigations but not understanding why she is allowing Ryder to be involved in her life again.
The new addition to this series is a wonderful mystery filled with twists and turns that will keep the reader turning the pages. Caroline Fardig is a talented writer with a quick wit, creativeness and a grasp on what will entertain. This is a fast paced read, is very well written with developed characters and a wonderful setting. The plot is truly interesting and will keep the reader on their toes. The surprise ending will leave the reader feeling either angry or filled with hope. This story is a fun read.
The publisher provided an ARC in return for an honest review. - Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5Complex friendships, convoluted romance issues, two twisty murder investigations, humorous situations, and more. Armed with a brand new PI license, Juliet finds herself embroiled in murders while her mentor/friend/partner is away. This is in addition to her more than full time job as coffee shop manager. The publisher's blurb gives hints and there is no need for spoilers here. If you like a side order of murders with your romance novel, you will be ecstatic over this one. Thanks to NetGalley for making this ARC available.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Crippling stage fright ended Juliet Langely's singing career. A two-timing fiancé wiped out her bank account and the accounts of her small café. Juliet comes home to Nashville to manage Java Jive, a coffeehouse owned by her best friend Pete. Prompted by earlier successes in solving murders, Juliet finally earns her private investigator's license. While her first solo case as a PI ends quite badly, Juliet shoulders on. Meanwhile, Josie, the fiancée of Shane, one of Java Jive's employees, dies of a heroin overdose. Shane insists Josie would never take drugs and believes her death is not accidental but a murder. Juliet and Pete promise to look into the case while Juliet balances her next PI case, working closely with her ex-boyfriend, Ryder Hamilton. In the midst of this turmoil, Juliet must sort through her feelings for her safe police boyfriend John Stafford, her ex-boyfriend bad-boy cop Ryder Hamilton, and her unresolved romantic feelings for Pete. As Juliet investigates Josie's death, it becomes clear that things are fishy at Josie's workplace, a luxury party events planner. Can Juliet solve her PI case, get to the bottom of Josie's death, and find romantic happiness? She's got a lot on her plate, but this fiery red-head is not one to give up!I loved reading this book. I read the first book in the series but not the others. I would suggest reading the series in order as some of the secondary characters must have been introduced in other books. On the whole, though, this was a fun read. I loved Juliet's personality and persistence. I applaud the author for giving Juliet a complicated love life as life is often messy and not clear and clean cut all the time. I definitely plan to go back and read the other books in this series.I received a free copy of this book from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
