„Eine neue Verschwörung der Garden ist entdeckt!” Das war der Morgengruß Orlow´s am 23. Mai 1765 an die Zarin Katharina II. Sie sprang mit beiden Füßen aus dem Bette und fasste den Günstling bei dem Goldkragen seiner Uniform. „Hast du sie verhaftet, Gregor?”, rief sie zornig. „Sie sind in deiner Hand, Katharina.” Die Kaiserin nickte und zeigte vergnügt lächelnd ihre schönen Zähne, dann warf sie einen mit flandrischen Spitzen besetzten leichten Schlafrock über sich, riss an der Glocke und rief ihre Vertrauten.
Der Psychiater Wilhelm Krafft-Ebing bezeichnete erstmals sexualpathologische Erscheinungen als „Masochismus“. Sacher-Masoch starb am 9. März 1895 im hessischen Lindheim bei Frankfurt am Main.

Leopold Von Sacher-Masoch was an Austrian writer of fiction and short stories, who inspired the clinical category of ‘Masochism’. His complex sexual fantasies, involving the love of pain and submission, ignited a once secretive pursuit into that of a recognised fetish. His masterpiece inspired a famous song of the same name by The Velvet Underground, and continues to be referred to as a defining work within the realm of erotic literature.
