About this audiobook
A collection of seventeen wonderful short stories showing that two-time Oscar winner Tom Hanks is as talented a writer as he is an actor.
A gentle Eastern European immigrant arrives in New York City after his family and his life have been torn apart by his country's civil war. A man who loves to bowl rolls a perfect game--and then another and then another and then many more in a row until he winds up ESPN's newest celebrity, and he must decide if the combination of perfection and celebrity has ruined the thing he loves. An eccentric billionaire and his faithful executive assistant venture into America looking for acquisitions and discover a down and out motel, romance, and a bit of real life. These are just some of the tales Tom Hanks tells in this first collection of his short stories. They are surprising, intelligent, heartwarming, and, for the millions and millions of Tom Hanks fans, an absolute must-have!
Featuring additional performances by Peter Gerety, Peter Scolari, Cecily Strong, Holland Taylor, and Wilmer Valderrama on "Stay With Us."
Editor's Note
Like a box of chocolates…
A running theme that ties these stories together is Hanks’ obvious love for the typewriter. There is one in each story, of various models and types, and it lends a sort of sweetness that we’ve come to associate with the actor himself.

- Rating: 2 out of 5 stars2/5Dived into this collection of short stories with an open mind: Tom Hanks, as an actor, had so much exposure to literature, art, acting... even interesting life events, so... he must have something interesting to share with readers... and the first story was acceptable, not that great, but hey, I can appreciate the dynamics of a long term friendship turned into a wacky relationship... and even the adolescent-father relationship story was kind of sweet, and the one about the war veterans was touching... but they all felt like newspaper stories, somehow, not like the gems I was expecting. So, unfortunately, I had to abandon the book halfway, in spite of wanting so much to find a story to remember.
I still like Tom Hanks, the actor! - Rating: 2 out of 5 stars2/5I just can't.
His stories are without substance. There doesn't seem to be a beginning or an end. - Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5The stories are rich, the characters are deep and the glimpse through time and into the lives of both ordinary and extraordinary lives is fascinating
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5I have not finished the book completely... but so far the stories have been great!

- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5First it was actually hearing Tom Hanks read, but then the story itself started to draw me in. He is as good a writer as he is actor.

- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5I'm not usually a short story fan, but this book was delightful. The audio version is a real treat, with Hanks himself doing the reading. Don't miss this one!
