About this audiobook
#1 New York Times bestselling author Lee Child returns with a gripping new powerhouse thriller featuring Jack Reacher, "one of this century's most original, tantalizing pop-fiction heroes" (The Washington Post).
Reacher takes a stroll through a small Wisconsin town and sees a class ring in a pawn shop window: West Point 2005. A tough year to graduate: Iraq, then Afghanistan. The ring is tiny, for a woman, and it has her initials engraved on the inside. Reacher wonders what unlucky circumstance made her give up something she earned over four hard years. He decides to find out. And find the woman. And return her ring. Why not?
So begins a harrowing journey that takes Reacher through the upper Midwest, from a lowlife bar on the sad side of small town to a dirt-blown crossroads in the middle of nowhere, encountering bikers, cops, crooks, muscle, and a missing persons PI who wears a suit and a tie in the Wyoming wilderness.
The deeper Reacher digs, and the more he learns, the more dangerous the terrain becomes. Turns out the ring was just a small link in a far darker chain. Powerful forces are guarding a vast criminal enterprise. Some lines should never be crossed. But then, neither should Reacher.
Advance praise for The Midnight Line
"Compulsively readable."—Publishers Weekly (starred review)
"[A] multifaceted novel about dealing with the unthinkable . . . It's automatic: Reacher gets off a bus, and Child lands on the New York Times bestseller list."—Booklist
"I just read the new Jack Reacher novel by Lee Child. . . . It is as good as they always are. I read every single one."—Malcolm Gladwell
"The book is very smart . . . [and] suggests something that has not been visible in the series' previous entries: a creeping sadness in Reacher's wanderings that, set here among the vast and empty landscapes of Wyoming, resembles the peculiarly solitary loneliness of the classic American hero. This return to form is also a hint of new ground to be covered."—Kirkus Reviews

- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5I've listened to most of the Jack Reacher books now since the Tom Cruise movie came out. This was quite enjoyable, though it seemed to have quite a bit less action than some of the others. The storyline was interesting if predictable. Overall, worth a listen if you love this series.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5It was all in the details as always, Lee does an awesome job with his research!
- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5took awhile to reach the meat of the story. the last few chapters were good, but to much nonsense details that make your eyes roll back like a teenage and say duh.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Full of action and adventure. The good guys always win.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Let’s hope Tom Cruise channels this one into a Paramount movie.
- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5not one of the better Jack Reacher novels, seems to be a lot of fluff in the story.
- Rating: 1 out of 5 stars1/5Not up to other books. It won't become a movie
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5This was a really good book! I love thrillers, mysteries, or books about crime, so this one was perfect for me. I couldn't stop listening! It was the first one I've read by this author, but it definitely won't be the last.
- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5Felt like an extended short story. Standard Lee Child devices and characters. He wants to make a point about veterans care. OK, got it. But not a very good reacher book.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5I know I’m coming to the end of the list, but man, what a ride! Audiobooks help me get the release I need while accomplishing what I need to do. Great stories are a GREAT help. Thanks much mr. Child!
- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5The story was good but the narrator has a funny voice that I can't get over. It's like he's pleading and mocking as he reads. Plot was excellent and the story line was fairly easy to follow. Sorry that's my take on this book. I've read 2 of your books with same narrator.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5I love the Jack Reacher novels, they're well written and very exciting. I'm also a fan of the narrator, Dick Hill, however in this case, I don't think his voice fits who I envision as Jack Reacher. To me, Hill makes Reacher sound like a 64 year old senior citizen. Something about the tone, the old-fashioned inflection and lack of much emotion at all. The first novel when Jack is getting down and dirty with Bosco, the hot-bodied cop, it just seemed awkward and almost "dirty old man" sounding. Dick Hill is talented, I just would pick him last to read the old of Jack Reacher. Reacher should be an energetic, very confident, exciting character who can kick the daylights out of anyone. But instead he is sort of like Liam Neeson's dad, and Liam is about 62 years old. Anyone agree with me on this?
On the contrast when I listen to novels narrated by Scott Brick, such as Orphan X, now that is a voice that fits the character so well. Or Court Gentry's voice in the Gray Man stories.
Now I'm curious how old Dick Hill is. I'm gonna check that out after I post this.1 person found this helpful
