Features John Putnam Thatcher, SVP of the Sloan Guaranty Trust. A discount airlines is considering going from a profitable commuter line to a major coast to coast airline, taking on the big guys. An internal fight breaks out, the Sloan is involved through a loan, and stock in a trust they manage, so John Putnam must get involved with his henchmen, Gabler as auditor and Trinkham as insighter. Great fun, deals with many pieties, so a must read.

- Rating: 1 out of 5 stars1/5Emma Lathen books are wonderful. These readings are dreadful: flat, error-filled, dull, and badly recorded. So dreadfully inept that Scribd should withdraw them from the catalog.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5I used to love Emma Lathen mysteries. I read this one a long time ago and really enjoyed it then but started to re-read recently and I quit about half way through. Book was still good but notenough to make me finish it when I have other books waiting.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Sparrow Airways is either on the brink of something big or in big trouble. But employees and even management can't seem to agree on which it is. John Putnam Thatcher of the Sloan Guarantee Trust would normally let them figure it out on their own, but not with some the bank's money on the line. And when a labor negotiation ends in murder, he's even more determined to figure out if this investment is going to lead to more trouble.I always enjoy these books, even if they are out of print. Worth reading and even rereading.
