About this audiobook
Hearts and loyalties collide in this electrifying new YA series from New York Times bestselling author Jennifer A. Nielsen. Nothing is as it seems in the kingdom of Antora. Kestra Dallisor has spent three years in exile in the Lava Fields, but that won't stop her from being drawn back into her father's palace politics. He's the right-hand man of the cruel king, Lord Endrick, which makes Kestra a valuable bargaining chip. A group of rebels knows this all too well—and they snatch Kestra from her carriage as she reluctantly travels home.
The kidnappers want her to retrieve the lost Olden Blade, the only object that can destroy the immortal king, but Kestra is not the obedient captive they expected. Simon, one of her kidnappers, will have his hands full as Kestra tries to foil their plot, by force, cunning, or any means necessary. As motives shift and secrets emerge, both will have to decide what—and who—it is they're fighting for.
Jennifer A. Nielsen introduces us to an unforgettable new heroine in this epic tale of treachery and intrigue, love and deceit.

- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5Deceit, love, and destiny. It’s a Fantastic first book.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5Thoroughly enjoyed this looking forward to the next book I like that she has a little story extra at the end.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Good book is very good me like this book ???
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5FANTASTIC BOOK really well done it kept my interested until the last second can’t wait to start the next one
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Twists and turns, strong characters an absolute page turner. Read it!
- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5The storyline starts out great. Then Jennifer Nielsen adds insta love and it really lowers the story. I would have loved to have seen the main love interest slowly made into a friend and had the foreign prince play a bigger role. Hopefully book 2 will do that.
- Rating: 1 out of 5 stars1/5An awful book. Implausible dialogues, enemies to love interest within 3 days, few characters with redeeming qualities. I’ve never given a single star rating, but this one doesn’t even merit that much.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5This book is a great read, and and very interesting!
- Rating: 1 out of 5 stars1/5This story could have been really good but I ended up hating it by the end. What annoyed me the most was the love interest between Kestra and Simon. THREE days together and supposedly they are in love?? On top of that, Simon had helped kidnap Kestra and was keeping her hostage and forcing her to act against her will. Yet Kestra ended up falling in love with him? Ughhhh. The whole thing felt so forced and every time they thought about how much they liked each other or declared it to each other I cringed so bad. The author should have just deleted Simon from the whole book and focused on Kestra. Or at a minimum don’t make them develop any love interest. Not every story needs love. Especially not this horribly written.
- Rating: 2 out of 5 stars2/5Nice for eye-rolling exercises. Female narrator had so many pauses, is the book full of ,s and .s?
