Описание

From the author of Fawkes comes a magical take on the story of Anastasia Romanov.

The history books say I died. They don’t know the half of it.

Anastasia “Nastya” Romanov was given a single mission: to smuggle an ancient spell into her suitcase on her way to exile in Siberia. It might be her family’s only salvation. But the leader of the Bolshevik army is after them...and he’s hunted Romanov before.

Nastya’s only chances of survival are to either release the spell, and deal with the consequences, or enlist help from Zash, the handsome soldier who doesn’t act like the average Bolshevik. Nastya’s never dabbled in magic before, but it doesn’t frighten her as much as her growing attraction for Zash. She likes him. She thinks he might even like her....

That is, until she’s on one side of a firing squad...and he’s on the other.

The first part was very historical and slow. It picked up in the second half of the book.

The 1st half of the book follows the time of when the Romanov where captured until their execution, after that the writer continued the story on "what if" princess Anastasia and prince Alexie had survived.
interwoven with magic and determination of the royal blood... the surviving siblings fight for their lives in order to escape and build their shattered world back.
If you like history and always wondered what happened to the missing sibling then you will enjoy this book.

A beautiful story filled with true hope, incondicional love and forgiveness. It explored the many emotions of the main character and without making things simple. I enjoyed the first part a bit more than the second one, but I wanted to kept reading anyways cause I cared about these characters so much. And through this I met the Romanov family (I admit I didn't know them) . And I think I will re-read this because it is very inspiring when it comes to learn how to forgive and how to never give up hope.

I love anything to do with the Romanov story, so this book was a must for me.

The beginning of the story was slow, but I enjoyed that. The day to day struggle of being captives, and how they as a family kept each other going.

When the inevitable happened that’s when things took a turn for the weird.

At the 60% marker I wanted it to be over already.

I enjoyed the first half, but after that point I was done. I listened to the end but I wasn’t at all invested.

    Audio
    1/5 ⭐
The audio was highly difficult to get into. I do not understand why the first person story was read in a British accent, then the dialogue was read in a Russian accent. It was really irritating.
The Russian accent dialogue wasn’t always distinctive so it was hard to tell who was speaking sometimes.
The chapters were read in this really perky tone… The scene would end on something tragic and she’d come in cheering the next chapter number. It was just.. ?

I wanted to love this so much.
