About this audiobook

An Amazon Charts, Wall Street Journal, and Washington Post bestseller.

In an unforgettable love story, a woman’s impossible journey through the ages could change everything…

Anne Gallagher grew up enchanted by her grandfather’s stories of Ireland. Heartbroken at his death, she travels to his childhood home to spread his ashes. There, overcome with memories of the man she adored and consumed by a history she never knew, she is pulled into another time.

The Ireland of 1921, teetering on the edge of war, is a dangerous place in which to awaken. But there Anne finds herself, hurt, disoriented, and under the care of Dr. Thomas Smith, guardian to a young boy who is oddly familiar. Mistaken for the boy’s long-missing mother, Anne adopts her identity, convinced the woman’s disappearance is connected to her own.

As tensions rise, Thomas joins the struggle for Ireland’s independence and Anne is drawn into the conflict beside him. Caught between history and her heart, she must decide whether she’s willing to let go of the life she knew for a love she never thought she’d find. But in the end, is the choice actually hers to make?

When I first started this book, I have to admit that I was only reading it to bide time until Scribd made a few much anticipated titles. I soon found myself surprisingly captivated and could not stop reading (listening to the audiobook). The story never has a dull moment, and is full of historically accurate parts that will keep any HF fan on their toes. I loved this book, so much so, that I am seeking out all of her other books just to see what else she can surprise me with.

This book starts out slow but once it gets going, it grabs you. It gets a little confusing sometimes going between two time periods but I thoroughly enjoyed the storyline.

What a fantastic book. Loved it from start to end. A love story over time, a romance but not a soppy predictable love story.

This was a beautiful and so informative novel! I knew that there was a lot of craziness in Ireland, but how sad to learn about the division. But how wonderfully interwoven is this cast of characters!? I am dying! What a wonderful way to write a time-travel storyline! Just stunning!

The book was a pleasure to listen to. The narrators was perfect for their roles and captured the mood and the feelings of the people in the book. I could almost feel myself lost in the mist and fearful of dying out there in the freezing waters of the loch.
It was an intriguing story and well worth the listen.

What the Wind Knows is a love story that spans decades, that lasts over several lifetimes, and that connects Ireland's history to the present. This beautiful country came alive in the author's descriptions, and the narrator's lilting brogue was like a melody.

This is my first Amy Harmon book. It might be my first 5 star review. Not that I enjoyed every moment. It engaged my mind more than my feelings. But I listen to dozens of audiobooks each year, and this will remain one of my most memorable for a long time. The book is well researched. She does an amazing job of bringing Irish culture and history to life. She is a wordsmith and doesn’t miss an opportunity for double entendre. She doesn’t hide from details or explaining complexities. And the ending was a complete surprise! Most impressive, however, is her ability to make fantasy believable. As a metaphysical writer, I know the challenge this presents. I look forward to many more of her books!

It has been days, and this story is still lingering in the back of my mind. For years I've been finding books to be less and less provoking, falling unacceptably short of satisfying. This audiobook had me literally shouting in my car "oh god no!" as if driving past some real-life tragedy on the highway. Heavy. Haunting. Lyrical. I fell in love with Ireland. I fell in love with the characters. I fell in love with Yeats. I fell in love with Harmon. What a deeply gratifying novel. "Don't go near the water, Love."
