About this audiobook
From the New York Times bestselling author of Mrs. Lincoln’s Dressmaker, an enthralling historical saga that recreates the danger, romance, and sacrifice of an era and brings to life one courageous, passionate American—Mildred Fish Harnack—and her circle of women friends who waged a clandestine battle against Hitler in Nazi Berlin.
After Wisconsin graduate student Mildred Fish marries brilliant German economist Arvid Harnack, she accompanies him to his German homeland, where a promising future awaits. In the thriving intellectual culture of 1930s Berlin, the newlyweds create a rich new life filled with love, friendships, and rewarding work—but the rise of a malevolent new political faction inexorably changes their fate.
As Adolf Hitler and his Nazi Party wield violence and lies to seize power, Mildred, Arvid, and their friends resolve to resist. Mildred gathers intelligence for her American contacts, including Martha Dodd, the vivacious and very modern daughter of the US ambassador. Her German friends, aspiring author Greta Kuckoff and literature student Sara Weiss, risk their lives to collect information from journalists, military officers, and officials within the highest levels of the Nazi regime.
For years, Mildred’s network stealthily fights to bring down the Third Reich from within. But when Nazi radio operatives detect an errant Russian signal, the Harnack resistance cell is exposed, with fatal consequences.
Inspired by actual events, Resistance Women is an enthralling, unforgettable story of ordinary people determined to resist the rise of evil, sacrificing their own lives and liberty to fight injustice and defend the oppressed.

- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5I loved the detail of the events that led to Hitlers rise. I’ve always been appalled at how the German people could let such an evil man rise to power but this book has given me insight into how that happened slowly and meticulously. Makes me wonder what I would have done.

- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Beautiful story of brave women, many of whom paid the ultimate price in a courageous effort to push back the darkness of the Nazi regime in Germany and to fight for those who could not fight for themselves. It’s a well written, compelling story that I have a feeling will stick with me for some time. It’s also one that I will be regularly recommending to fellow booklovers!

- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5Take a shot every time this author uses the word "beloved"...
Amazing narration. Compelling story. But the author does not seem to care about her characters or allow us to guess at motivations. It is heavy handed expository text.1 person found this helpful
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5The intertwining of the various characters in this book kept me riveted. The author was able to make the reader feel as if she knows them. I felt such pain at their plight. I love historical novels and read many. I consider this one of the best!

- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Great book. I appreciate how it brings up the bravery of women, during that period. So often history doesn’t include them and that’s a shame.
