About this audiobook
Sherri Smith illuminates the dark side of the self-care and wellness industry in a thrilling ride of revenge perfect for fans of Liane Moriarty’s Nine Perfect Strangers. The Retreat is a twisting, bone-chilling suspense that asks: how well do you really know your friends?
Four women.
Four secrets.
A weekend that will change them forever…if they survive.
Katie Manning was a beloved child star until her mid-teens when her manager attacked and permanently scarred her face, effectively ending her career and sending her on a path of all-too-familiar post-Hollywood self-destruction.
Now twenty-seven, Katie wants a better answer to those clickbait “Where Are They Now?” articles that float around online. An answer she hopes to find when her brother’s too-good-to-be-true fiancée invites her to a wellness retreat upstate. Together with Katie’s two best friends―one struggling with crippling debt and family obligations, one running away from a failed job and relationship―Katie will try to find the inner peace promised at the tranquil retreat. But finding oneself just might drudge up more memories than Katie is prepared to deal with.
Each woman has come to the retreat for different reasons. Each has her secrets to hide. And at the end of this weekend, only one will be left standing.
Sherri Smith
When not writing SHERRI SMITH spends time with her family and two rescue dogs, and restores vintage furniture that would otherwise be destined for the dump. She lives in Winnipeg, Canada, where the long, cold winters nurture her dark side. She is the author of Follow Me Down and The Retreat.

- Rating: 2 out of 5 stars2/5Katie Manning, former child star goes to The Retreat with her brother's fiance Ellie and two friends Carmen and Ariel. The highlight of the weekend is the drinking of the h ayahuasca tea. The weekend however does not go entirely to plan.I was interested in this book and was lucky enough to win a copy in an Instagram giveaway. However the book turned out nothing like I was expecting. The story follows the four women and what happens to them at The Retreat. All four have their own back story and what issues each of them bring with them. I initially thought this book was going to be about a cult which was the attraction, but the retreat is just what it claims to be. The story for me was very character driven with the main action taking part at the end of the book. At times during the story I was getting bored then something would happen to regain my interest. I didn't really like any of the characters so didn't really feel a connection with them.A disappointing read for, annoying characters and an ending which was like a slasher movie. I enjoyed small snippets in the book but overall really struggled to get on with it.

- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Loved this book! It was a really fun and action packed read!
- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5The Retreat by Sherri Smith is a blend of mystery/thriller genres. I like cozy mysteries and this reminded me of those books but with a suspense twist. It was a predictable and easy read to enjoy over a cup of tea. The atmosphere was well done but I absolutely hated the main characters. I found it hard to connect to any of them but then that is not the point or focus of the book. Overall, I found it to be worth reading and I look forward to reading more by this author.
