About this audiobook

Anne Norris moved to Savannah, Georgia, for a fresh start. Now her pirate-tour business is flagging, and paying the rent requires more than wishful thinking. When she discovers evidence of a shipwreck off the coast of Tybee Island, she knows it could be just the boon she needs to stay afloat. She takes her findings to local museum director Carter Hale for confirmation, but she runs after a disastrous first meeting.

Carter has been searching for the location of the wreck detailed in the worn pages of an eighteenth-century diary, the discovery of which could open the door to his dream job at a prestigious museum. But convincing Anne to help him fill in the missing pieces of the puzzle is no easy task. And working with Carter means that Anne will have to do the one thing she swore she'd never do again: trust a man.

Finding a monetary backer and sticking with a search that's turning up nothing will take all their dedication-and every secret they've tried to hide. If they can find the lost ship, they may discover a treasure worth more than all the pirate gold in the world-love.

Title: A Glitter of Gold (Georgia Coast Romance #2)Author: Liz JohnsonPages: 368Year: 2019Publisher: RevellMy rating: 5 out of 5 stars. What a great story! I finished this novel in almost a day because it was such a wonderful weaving of past and present, joy and sorrow, plus more! I was captivated by the two main characters, Anne Norris and Carter Hale. Anne Norris’ past experiences certainly impact her ability to live in the present. Her attempts at hiding, running from and denying her colorful past are about to end. Carter Hale is a man with a dream and vision, unfortunately it isn’t cherished by his father. Both Anne and Carter are going to come together to solve a 250-year-old mystery that has romance and surprising tie to their present lives. Liz Johnson weaves a masterpiece that includes a historical find on a beach and mistakes in the past that scar not only Anne’s present, but it also could have negative ramifications for her future.Carter is a man with a dream, and the job he most desires may just be around the corner until he meets Anne. Carter also has family issues that he allows to color his choices and maybe impact his ability to grab the future God has for him. He reminds me of everyday people, like us, who have had family troubles and unless we deal with them head on it can keep us from living life to its fullest! If you enjoy novels that have faith, romance, mystery and a little touch of suspense, look no further! I have read Liz’s novels, none have so far let me experience anything other than a pleasurable story that uplifts the heart long after the book is closed!Note: The opinions shared in this review are solely my responsibility.

I won this book as a goodreads first-read giveaway. I really enjoyed this romance. The characters were appealing and realistic. They both are entranced with a story from the past. I liked the style of writing, where we read this story along with the female protagonist.

The story begins with a young woman, Anne Norris. Anne is an historic tour guide in Savanna, Georgia with a checkered past. She is originally from California but she has left her life and family there to start fresh in a place where no one knows her name. She even takes on the work name of Anne Bonny, a famous pirate and privateer from the 1800’s just to give her an extra layer of anonymity.

Like most pirate tales you will definitely find treasure, romance, sunken ships, wild goose chases, and a story that draws you in to see what happens next. This story is about Anne and a man named Carter Hale who find themselves in search of a long forgotten ship that went down in the area. Carter holds original journals passed down through his family of a woman who was aboard that ship. He is overjoyed when Anne walks in with a piece of history she found just after a hurricane in the area. This sets them on a journey to save a museum, find a piece of history believed lost to the community forever, and a treasure far greater than gold as they both seek forgiveness and peace with their past and their families.

It is a well written fascinating story that will entice the treasure hunter in all of us!

This was a fun exciting read! Anne has made some bad choices. Finding it difficult to face the shame and embarrassment in her home town, she moves away for a new start. Just wanting to, well hide, she comes to Savannah, Georgia hoping for a fresh start. There she attempts to start a tour company. Dressed up in pirate garb she takes tourists, hungry for adventure, on excursions to historical spots, regaling them with stories of famous pirates. The picture of cute girl on the front with the sassy look definitely captured Anne’s personality! Struggling with her finances a facing defeat she was very discouraged, until while walking on the beach after a storm she finds a sword hilt sticking out of the sand. She hopes it will be of great value and allow her to remain in Georgia. She sneaks our Carter Hale, the director of a small museum that was also facing a lack of funds. He believes the hilt may prove the shipwreck of a famous pirate ship that had never been proven to exist. They consult a pirate’s diary from 1750 for clues. Journal entries from book are shown throughout the story. This I really enjoyed!!! It added to the excitement! While Carter and Anne are both on the same page about verifying shipwreck and the hilt’s authenticity they are going in totally different directions in other areas. This causes conflicts in their budding relationship. Aunt Tessie was precious. Her scriptural wisdom and sweet spirit drew me to her character. All in all, God clearly has a plan for both Carter and Anne to heal from wounds they are carrying.

"A Glitter of Gold" was of interest to me because of its intriguing location and topics. I like to read about artifacts, archaeology, and pirate lore. This book included those things. The plot revolves around a young woman with an interesting history and job. Anne is a pirate wreck tour guide. When she finds some evidence of an undiscovered shipwreck, she enlists the help of the local museum curator Carter. A diary helps with their investigation. Both Anne and Carter have secrets to hide and to deal with, and must decide whether to trust each other with those secrets.I received this book from LT Early Reviewers.

I thought this was an excellent read. I have not read Liz Johnson much, but the plot sounded exciting. Who doesn't like pirates and lost treasure in sunken ships? I felt that the beginning was slow, but I kept reading and I'm glad I did!The book is about Anne Norris, who owns a failing business giving tours around Savannah, Georgia. Her life takes a turn after a hurricane, when she finds an antique, gold sword hilt on the beach. Anne takes the sword hilt to the local museum run by Carter Hale. Carter has problems of his own, as the board of the museum is threatening to close him down. Anne and Carter see the sword hilt as a way to save them both financially, if they work together. Glitter of Gold is light on romance, light on Christianity, and big on adventure. You will want to keep reading to see if Anne and Carter succeed.

It was an okay story, but definitely not one I would count among my favorites. The themes of shame, grace, and forgiveness are all parts of the book. There's the contemporary story of Anne and Carter, and the past story of Rebecca and Samuel as told through a diary and letters. WARNING: POTENTIAL SPOILERS--READ AT YOUR OWN DISCRETION****Anne moved from California to Georgia and now runs her own pirate-themed tour company. Anne's hiding a past that involves prison. She's so ashamed of trusting the wrong man that she deliberately keeps other people out of close relationships with her. After a hurricane rips through the area, she finds the hilt of a sword, which she takes to a maritime museum to get information.Carter, the current curator of the failing museum, recognizes the sword hilt from a description contained in a family diary his aunt gave to him. The story in the diary intrigues Anne and soon the two are partnering in an attempt to find the ship.Another theme in the story is secrets. Because Anne doesn't tell Carter the whole truth behind her desire to avoid media involvement, he doesn't comprehend why he should keep her name out of it when he does go to the media--and he ends up opening a firestorm of media attention that Anne doesn't need or want. Now, I'm not saying you need to spill your deepest, darkest secrets to the whole world--but if you are in a close relationship with someone, and it's a relationship that you think is going to lead to marriage someday, then, yes, the other person needs to know. The fact that she doesn't share this with Carter and it comes back to bite her and break up their relationship is pretty predictable within fiction.Carter must resolve his issues with his family name and with his father not liking Carter's career choice. Carter thinks to gain his father's respect, he must get a prestigious position with a big name museum.Anne must forgive herself and cover herself with grace rather than shame. She must learn to trust her judgement of others again (since she feels she was fooled so badly in California). She needs to learn to hold her head high and assert her story instead of hiding herself in shame.

I really enjoyed this clean romance of Liz Johnson's. I received this for free and I've voluntarily chose to review this. I've given it a 5* rating. This was a new to me author and I will be reading more of her work. If you enjoy reading about long ago pirates and of treasure, this is for you. There is a lot of expense and steps to looking for these treasures of all kinds. They hit on a lot of family history and other looking for this old ship. Sometimes you just got to have faith to work things out.

This book made me laugh and cry. This was one of my favorite books so far this year. I loved the characters and the story. I loved the diary parts that showed us what it was like on a merchant ship years ago. This had action and romance. I received a copy of this book from the author for a fair and honest opinion that I gave of my own free will.

The author gives us a young woman Anne who is really down on her luck, and her trust of her fellow man is at an all-time low.Enter a young man who is trying to make a name for himself without relying on his famous last name, and fate throws them together. Can Anne end up trust a man? Can Carter help himself and also Anne?We are also given a backstory, a relative of Carter’s, but this relative and her precious diary begin to tie everything together.Once you turn the first page, you will be page turning, and watch how wonderfully the author has the past meet the present. A don’t miss read!I received this book through Net Galley and the Publisher Revell, and was not required to give a positive review.

This was a great story and very enjoyable reading. It’s the story of Anne and Carter and the history of Rebecca Jones from another time period. The history in this book and the research that went into it make this a great book to read. I am thankful to LibraryThing for allowing me to have this Advanced Reader copy.

“And God’s grace isn’t just forgiveness. It’s also strength to face the hard times. It’s the thing that prompts you to get back up when you’ve been pushed down. Shame never did anything for anyone but make them feel lower than low. Grace refuses to leave you there. I refuse to leave you there.”I have been a fan of Liz Johnson’s books since the Prince Edward Island Dreams series but she has clearly outdone herself with this book. There is something incredibly raw, delicate, vulnerable, painful yet hopeful and captivating within these beautiful pages. The author’s writing, as expected, is fluid, melodic, and easy to follow and the plot is full of delightful surprises as Anne and Carter hunt for a sunken ship off the coast of Tybee Island. The characters of Anne and Carter are down-to-earth and flawed, but so lovable in their humanness. The faith element, provided by Carter’s aunt Tessie, is straight-forward and full of life applications. Anne, a once wrongly convicted felon in the state of CA, only wants anonymity and a little extra money from her city tours that she hosts in Savannah, GA. Carter is a museum director looking for a big find so that his tiny Savannah museum can stay afloat and he can get opportunities at bigger places. “She was a woman with a past she’d rather forget and a name she could do without. He was a man with a name he didn’t seem to want yet couldn’t help but own.” They meet when Anne finds a treasure after a hurricane sweeps through Savannah and they forge a tentative business partnership as they try to find a sunken ship from the mid-1700s that’s only known to Carter’s family through an inherited heirloom of a diary. The romance is sweet and beautiful but more beautiful is the theme of grace covering shame, guilt, bitterness, and past transgressions. This is book 2 in Georgia Coast Romance but is actually a stand-alone. The characters from book 1 don’t cross over into this book but both books do share a similar location and a trope of treasure hunt and a journal to lead them. So even if you didn’t read A Sparkle of Silver (but you should!), you wouldn’t miss anything in this book. I can’t wait for the next book to go treasure hunting again!I received a copy of the book from Baker Publishing Group and was under no obligation to post a positive review. All comments and opinions are solely my own.

A Glitter of Gold by Liz Johnson was an easy read that kept me turning the pages. Part romance, part mystery, and part adventure, I thoroughly enjoyed the story. The novel addressed deep issues such as shame, trust, and family identity, but it felt light and hopeful. Aunt Tessie was my favorite character in A Glitter of Gold. With her wise words and non-judgmental attitude, she facilitated Anne's healing. Anne's back story surprised me a bit. It's not frequent in Christian fiction for the leading lady to have such a background and I liked the uniqueness of it. Another aspect I enjoyed was the reading of the diary in Carter's possession. I didn't think of the novel as a dual timeline story, but a historical romance was embedded within the larger, contemporary plot of A Glitter of Gold. Like Anne, I desperately wanted to know what happened with the people in the diary.A Glitter of Gold by Liz Johnson is the second book in the Georgia Coast Romance series, but worked fine as a stand-alone novel. It is the first book I've read by Liz Johnson and I'll be on the lookout for more of her work. Four stars!Disclosure of Material Connection: I was provided a copy of this book by the publisher. This novel set in Savannah, Georgia intertwines the current-day issues facing protagonists Anne Norris and Carter Hale, two young people whose interest in history and pirates bring them together to solve the mystery of a 250-year-old shipwreck off the Georgia coast. Additionally the novel details a sub-text that involves a dashing sea captain, Samuel Thackery and the young woman Rebekah Jones, who joins his crew while masquerading as a young cabin boy in order to find her brother who has been commandeered by a rogue pirate captain. The sub-text reminds me particularly of a young adult novel "The True Confessions of Charlotte Doyle" - also about a young woman masquerading as a young man for a sea voyage. In "A Glitter of Gold" young Anne Norris' previous experiences with men, most notably a young man who tricked her into participating in the bombing of an offshore oil rig that led to a man's death and her six-year-imprisonment, cause her to be especially cautious when she approaches Carter Hale, who curates a maritime museum, to help her identify a sword hilt she finds in the sand. Their adventures and how they come to realize grace in their lives take up the rest of the story. I enjoyed reading it and was finished with the book within three days of beginning it.

Thank you to Revell and the author for a complimentary copy. All opinions expressed are my own. *REVIEW* ????I could say I loved A Glitter Of Gold just because of the setting. Savannah is my favorite city, and I've spent a lot of time there as well as Tybee Island. Just about everything in Savannah is haunted in some way, and there is a lot of pirate lore. I'm glad the story matched the vibe of the city. Anne and Carter are both running/hiding in different ways, and both are failing in their business ventures. Fate draws them together with a piece of possible treasure. I love a good treasure hunt, especially with bits of the past thrown in the mix. Anne and Carter slowly unravel this historic mystery while forming a genuine relationship, and thank goodness for that because I'm tired of the instant love formulaic stories I've been reading. This story felt more compelling and realistic. These characters are flawed, complex, entertaining and relatable because of these qualities. Faith is present in the story but not in an overdone way. It's a well balanced tale of hardship, loss, love, trust and redemption. I found it thoughtfully written, researched and very appealing overall. Liz Johnson has written an insightful story that's not a typical romance or mystery. It's a mixture that flows smoothly across the pages. Now, when will we see a story about Bonaventure??
