Описание

Secrets never die . . .

October, 1923. Lady detective Olive Belgrave has a new case. Lady Agnes doesn’t believe in curses—especially ancient curses—and she hires Olive to prove her uncle wasn’t the victim of a malevolent mummy. Olive investigates and discovers the truth is much worse—it’s murder. Can Olive debunk the curse and reveal the true culprit before the mummy curse claims another victim?

The Egyptian Antiquities Murder is the third book in the High Society Lady Detective series, a cozy historical series set in 1920s England. If you enjoy lighthearted novels reminiscent of the Golden Age of detective fiction with spirited protagonists and perplexing mysteries, you’ll love the High Society Lady Detective Series from USA Today bestseller Sara Rosett.

Olive is invited to stay at Lady Agnes’ townhouse which is practically a museum for Egyptian antiquities. The newspapers are saying that Lady Agnes’ uncle was the victim of an ancient mummy curse and she wants Olive to debunk that story. Olive starts her investigation and with the help of her friend Jasper manages to get to the real culprit.

Unfortunately the assassin is not characterised at all, it does not attract your attention. I believe one has to be drawn to the culprit in meandering ways that will give you the ah-ah moment when the truth is revealed. This character is an undefined nobody, it lacks the punch. Some of the characters are great, Nora for example, and the boy working for the antiquities' shop is a great cameo. Furthermor,e the relationship between Olive and her friend Jasper is taking great shape, a real pleasure to imagine and lovingly convincing but overall (and I am really sorry to say it as I know the sweat and tears of writing) I am not convinced, the book lacks the spark.

Another fun, easy to read instalment of this charming, cozy mystery series. Narration is excellent.

This series would make fabulous television. Great female detective and such a potential for costumes! Loving it.
