Описание

Common — the Grammy Award, Academy Award, and Golden Globe-winning musician, actor, and activist — follows up his New York Times best-selling memoir One Day It’ll All Make Sense with this inspiring exploration of how love and mindfulness can build communities and allow you to take better control of your life through actions and words. Common’s warm and rousing narration is accompanied by music written and performed exclusively for this audiobook.

Common believes that the phrase “let love have the last word” is not just a declaration; it is a statement of purpose, a daily promise. Love is the most powerful force on the planet and ultimately, the way you love determines who you are and how you experience life.

Touching on God, self-love, partners, children, family, and community, Common explores the core tenets of love to help others understand what it means to receive and, most important, to give love. He moves from the personal — writing about his daughter, to whom he wants to be a better father — to the universal, where he observes that our society has become fractured under issues of race and politics. He knows there's no quick remedy for all of the hurt in the world, but love — for yourself and for others — is where the healing begins.

Courageous, insightful, brave, and characteristically authentic, Let Love Have the Last Word shares Common’s own unique and personal stories of the people and experiences that have led to a greater understanding of love and all it has to offer. It is a powerful call to action for a new generation of open hearts and minds, one that is sure to resonate for years to come.

Common is real in his revaluations, it's comforting to hear the perspective of love in all facet's of life from a male perspective. It's rare and soothing at the same time. I would definitely love for men to take the time and read or listen to this book.

Common is a beautiful man and wonderful human being through his music, acting, and writing. I aspire to be as emotionally intelligent and wise as he is. He's very easy to admire and idolize and his memoir gives a look into his personal life, where we see where he came from and what he feels when he's not performing. There's a lot you don't know about a person, especially a celebrity, that makes you forget they're human as well. Lastly, his views on the world align greatly with Fred Rogers and my own views, in spreading love and being a good person. This book is inspiring, uplifting, and great to listen to/read at any time as a mantra or way to motivate yourself.

Great Book I love learning about celebrities I love. I’m even happier that he read his own book. It was definitely the Voice for me ?. Made the book even more enjoyable. Let Love Have The Last Word will be a new quote to live by for me.

Found the beginning confusing, probably making judgements on his thoughts. Read it several times but found my answers to his pain at the end of the book. Very sad story! A gift to all

What a great book about your life common it allowed me to see what you went through as a child being molested and you turned out to be an awesome father

I’m glad I took the time to listen. Thank you.

For most of the book, I felt this book was on the line between okay and worth reading. The last chapter, despite being only 3 pages, just pulled so much together that I decided on a 4 star rating.

The way that the book is written, it feels as if Common is relating things to the reader just as or just after they have happened. In some ways, it gives a feeling of intimacy, but also feels like a rather unique choice for a memoir.

There are moments that feel repetitious as he write about his thoughts and explorations around love. And, he doesn't shy away from mentioning his faith - though he doesn't go much farther in this book then attributing God for his source of inspiration for living and "let[ting] love have the last word."

While he does include moments from his life and about various relationships - mostly with family - it feels less like a memoir overall, and more like a long reflective essay of sorts.

To attempt to describe this work using words would do this memoir no justice. This book touched me and resonated with my heart and soul in unexpected ways. I often found myself pausing to reflect and even sometimes having to journal my way through the chapters. It causes for self introspective of one’s own life while Common unselfishly gives us insight to his. But he does it in a way that is so pure and authentic that it causes one to also seek truth and honesty within themselves. It’s definitely not intended to be a self help book, but it would be a lie to say that this memoir did not help me. It’s wrapped in love, fosters love, and teaches love in a way that is plain and almost tangible. His description of love, his words are almost palpable. It’s a memoir that promotes healing. Healing from a place of love sometimes from the depths of pain. At moments while listening I cried, other times I smiled, and other times I was filled with hope and optimism. This is a beautiful work of art.

The authenticity and love for God . It was well written. Thanks for your vulnerability Common!

Deep, poetic. Was such a smooth vibe listening to this. A lot about the relationship with his daughter. Would have loved him to explore more in the rap and acting worlds. Appreciated the religious perspective and how that has formed him. It was all so very positive.

This felt like a love letter to his daughter, himself (in a good way!), and God. At first I was hesitant, Common talks like he’s a hotep on the street about to tell you to go alkaline & that a period is for white women, but his energy is nothing of that. The book is peaceful, honest, and full circle. I didn’t feel like I was listening to a memoir, instead more of a story about love and all the different places and ways we can see and feel it. He’s clearly very well read, with references from several classic books, the Bible, and beautiful songs. I learned a lot from this book about love, but more importantly about how to react when you’re impact doesn’t match your intentions, which seems to be where the disconnect was with his daughter. Common is clearly a grown ass man who’s doing the work to be the best version of that grown ass man. No complaints at all about this book.

Omg! When I tell you this book changed my life! I was in such a horrible mood lately. So much hate on my heart but after reading this and knowing that someone else out there share some of he same issues I have makes things better. I now want to strive to love more. Thank you Common.

He read his book like it was poetry, but even with that you could hear the imperfect moments in his reading but that made it even great because you could hear the emotion behind what he wrote. Loved this book!

As a father, I understand the importance of being vulnerable with my daughter, so that she can feel safe in sharing her thoughts with me. This book has affirmed this belief. Excellent book.
