Примечание редактора

Fall from grace…

Lamar Odom was one of New York’s top basketball recruits who would eventually be hospitalized after being found unconscious at a brothel. In this honest memoir, he describes his life on and off the court, from the dark underbelly of amateur basketball to superstardom as an NBA champion and through his marriage to Khloé Kardashian.

Описание

Fame. Sex. Pain. Drugs. Death. Booze. Money. Addiction. Redemption. Dizzying heights. Rock-bottom depths. Desperation and elation-sometimes in the same hour. Not to mention power . . . and the struggle for it.

The world knows Lamar Odom as a two-time NBA world champion who rocketed to uncharted heights of fame thanks to being a member of both the storied Los Angeles Lakers and the ubiquitous Kardashian empire.

But who is Lamar, really?

Fans have long praised his accessibility and genuine everyman quality-he is a blinding talent who has suffered a series of heartaches, setback, and loss. But until now, his most candid moments have remained behind closed doors . . . sometimes face-down on the floor.

In Darkness to Light, Lamar gives readers an intimate look into his life like never before. His exclusive and revealing memoir recounts the highs and lows of fame and his struggle with his demons along the way to self-discovery and redemption. From the pain of his unraveled marriage to Khloé Kardashian to the harmful vices he used to cope-and the near-death experience that made him rethink everything about his life-this is Lamar as you have never before seen him.

Lamar brings basketball fans directly into the action of a game during the Lakers championship years. He shares his personal account of the lifelong passion that started as one shining light in a childhood marked by loss and led to his international fame as one of the most extraordinary athletes of all time. In this profoundly honest book, Lamar invites you to walk with him through the good times and bad, while looking ahead to a brighter future.

Good book. A look into lives athletes live while not doing their jobs.

A lot of technical basketball stats that I’m not familiar with.

I liked Lamar Odem’s story of how he battled with his addictions of Sex ,Money & Drugs. I believe his story is relatable to many people chained by there bodily impulses.

Toward the end chapters ,I feel a great sense of his growth and gratitude for life and his towering 6’10 244 lb physique. I feel humbled and privileged at the opportunity to listen in on the life story of one of my favorite basketball player’s Lamar Joseph Odem.

I had no dislikes toward Mr.Odem’s literary piece, However I desired more of a reflective piece to his story in regards to ; how to fight depression , and how to avoid self medication .In chapter 30 Mr.Odem claims “I am still an addict”. I feel drawn by his humility and humanity and desire more stories of how he fought his addiction mentally as well spiritually throughout his ordeal. I can relate to Mr.Odems fall from grace chasing perfection , living through life’s obstacles ,and self medication.

I’m truly humbled by Mr.Odem’s story , your work truly touches upon issues that not only stem from drugs but also issues that are impregnated in inner city community’s . I would love to hear more about your thoughts and advice on how not to live in these conditions.

    Blessings , Emmanuel Scott

This was just okay. Slow in the beginning, picked up towards the end. I'm not sure I would recommend, but definitely not a bad book. It gave me insight into who Lamar is, and that's a pretty good dude. Overall, okay, check it out.

Hearing his story made him human. I wanted to give him a big hug! My heart poured out for him. Very well written. A great read

Writing seemed choppy. Desperately wished he narrated. Thought it was truly sad from childhood to adult status. Way too many basketball details. I'm a fan like the next one, and understand that's how he identifies himself and clearly is his passion, but some chapters about the background business was repetitive and unnecessary and overall just not as entertaining. It left me unsettled but I genuinely wish him the best. Anyone that comes back to life better be for an intense purpose.

4.5 StarsI was not really sure how this would go as some memoirs are really good and some fall really flat. I am a huge NBA fan and have followed a little bit around Lamar Odom over the years. My husband also really wanted to read this, so I was excited to have a copy sent my way. When it started I did feel the writing was a little choppy, and the story was all over the place. However; it all came together for me in the end.You will get a lot about his NBA career and the demons he has faced since he was a little kid. I was wondering if he would be open in regards to his drug use, and he was. This was very raw and made me cry several times. He does address his overdoses (there are more than one) which also made me cry my eyes out. I learned so much about other NBA players, coaches, teammates, and owners. My jaw dropped with some of the information. There was interesting information around how Lamar ended up in school (very interesting especially with all the college scandals going on today). There is some information around Khloe, but I do not think this is for you if you only want to read it for the KUWTK information. It is very limited, but really shows the love Lamar had for Khloe.Overall, I really enjoyed this.
