I don’t think I have read a book by Lynette Eason that I have not liked. Collateral Damage, the first book in the Danger Never Sleeps series, is no exception. Its complex plotting, credible characters, and hold-your-breath action keeps Eason a must-read author and Collateral Damage a recommended read.I loved that the book is set in both Afghanistan and South Carolina. It helped show that actions taken across the world really impact people in our own country — even actions of a very nefarious nature. The differences between the countries are vast, but the motivations and hearts of the people are the same, both for the good and bad. I won’t include any spoilers, but this book’s subject matter was a bit hard to read. But hard doesn’t mean graphic or sensationalized. The story begins with a bang, literally, and keeps its race-against-time pace throughout. The plot has a lot of seemingly unconnected strands, but they slowly emerge in one complexly crafted thread. As with any Eason novel, romance is also included. Main characters Brooke and Asher at first fight their chemistry — they both struggle with PTSD from their time in Afghanistan — but as they come to rely on each other more and more, you know that a strong relationship is sure to follow. While I really enjoyed this book, I did find the actual investigation a bit hard to believe. Neither Brooke or Asher are in law enforcement, yet they are included in the case almost from the start. Not sure that would happen in real life, but this is fiction so I am good with their level of involvement in this riveting book. For fans of romantic suspense, Collateral Damage is a great reading choice.Recommended.Audience: adults.(Thanks to Revell for a complimentary copy. 4.5 stars (rating shown may differ depending on whether site allows half star ratings). Really, the only thing keeping me from giving it 5 stars is that I probably wouldn't read it again. This is the first book in the series, but I have loved other series that Lynette Eason has written. She does suspense/thriller very well and puts in just the right amount of romance that it doesn't overpower the rest of the plot or distract from the rest of the story. The action began in chapter 1 and didn't really let up. I did guess how some of the pieces came together before the author revealed it, but I didn't guess who was behind the "ring" until right around the time the author revealed it. I liked the main characters and most of the "good" side's characters. I don't know enough about PTSD to know if Eason's portrayal of it was accurate, but it felt accurate to me. I especially liked that she showed that some of the sufferers of PTSD weren't necessarily combat veterans but might have been support staff that saw/heard/experienced things outside of a combat situation that they bring home with them.

My heart is still pounding from the roller coaster ride that is Collateral Damage, the first installment in the Danger Never Sleeps series by Lynette Eason. This story was proof again of why she is a must read author for me. So much is going on in this story that it is hard to even summarize. It is full of action, nail-biting suspense, and just a tad of romance. I really appreciated the way the author handled the very difficult topic of PTSD in our veterans who have seen horrific things while serving the country that they love. I don't want to say to much more for fear of giving away too much of the story. All I have left to say is if you have not read this one yet, track down a copy now and read it!! You won't be sorry! I am looking forward to Acceptable Risk, the next in the series that releases next month.

Title: Collateral Damage (Danger Never Sleeps #1)Author: Lynette Eason Pages: 320Year: 2020Publisher: RevellMy rating: 5 out of 5 stars. When I started the book, I easily got lost in all the action! It must have been the switching scenes that were happening simultaneously that caused me to go back and reread the first few pages. After that, I never looked back and read it in one sitting! The story captures the imagination of the characters who are returning to civilian life after active duty, which is portrayed to be easier for some than others. The two main characters are Brooke Adams and Asher James who meet while on active duty. Now, months later, they meet again when it appears Brooke’s life is in danger due to what she has in her possession. The plot leads readers on an action intense story as Brooke, with Asher being her shadow, tries to discover what the nefarious men are after and keeping herself alive. I enjoyed the plethora of background characters that I am thinking the author will give a few their own tales for us to enjoy! I appreciated the fact that the former service men and women had to work on getting over their nightmares, their reactions to sounds, and more. I thought the budding romance between Asher and Brooke could be growing in future books, and I loved the way the author wove into their story how love can help heal wounded hearts. This is one story that kept me turning pages for hours until I was at the end. I got a sneak peek into the second book in the series coming out titled, Danger Never Sleeps. I didn’t read the excerpt so as not to ruin my enjoyment when it is released but glossed over it to find out who the main characters might be in the next one and to see if some of the plot continues in book two. I won’t tell you more than that so as not to spoil it for those who haven’t read the book. Hope you grab a copy and then be prepared to read it from cover to cover in one sitting; it’s that good! Enjoy!Note: The opinions shared in this review are solely my responsibility.

“She’d thought she left the killing and the dying thousands of miles away in a country she did her best to forget existed.”As I’ve mentioned before, mystery and suspense novels have long been favorites of mine, but I usually read these genres within the Christian literary canon, and the majority of the fiction works I have the opportunity to review fall into the romance category. I am always thrilled to discover another Christian suspense author, and Lynette Eason fits the bill. “Collateral Damage” is classified as romantic suspense, and I feel that Eason achieved the desired balance to keep readers turning pages as they appreciate the romantic angle. She also skillfully handles the multiple plotlines as they converge throughout the narrative, making each distinctive without overwhelming readers. The crime scene investigation and forensic details drew me into the story the most; the novel’s opening chapters, focusing on the American military in Afghanistan, admittedly were over my head, and I struggled with understanding the various vehicles and weapons being described, but after those initial scenes events became clearer.Besides enjoying the storyline of “Collateral Damage”, I also appreciated the extent of social detail that Eason offers. The mostly inferior role of women in the Middle East comes through in several scenes and marks a startling contrast with what we expect in the United States. This was the first time that I have heard of a combat photographer, whose work in this story precipitates the action surrounding former military psychiatrist Brooke Adams and former Army Special Ops Sergeant First Class Asher James. One of the most interesting parts of this book, in my opinion, is the variety of roles within the military and how they work together both on duty and after discharge. Because of a dying soldier’s final request and the photos taken in the aftermath of a targeted explosion, Brooke finds herself in mortal peril with much more to deal with than just processing her own trauma. As such, the author also realistically and respectfully presents post-traumatic stress disorder and how it manifests in military personnel. For instance, a ceiling fan may trigger an episode because of its resemblance to a helicopter. Reading this novel increased my respect for our military even more. Most importantly, the faith element reminds Brooke, along with readers, that God is our ultimate strong tower and that He goes before us, always protecting, guiding, and loving us. I received a complimentary copy of this book from Revell and was under no obligation to post a positive review. All opinions are my own.

I liked the theme of the book how the author explored military personnel and the repercussions war has on them. It was nice to read about PTSD in a realistic way and show how hard it is to overcome this illness. The title is perfect for this story and was intriguing to read. Two peoples lives collide in this action packed story as a dead body turns up and danger follows. The two main characters work well together and I liked how they each had a past that was similar. It is a fast paced story that looks at the military and delivers an edge of your seat thrilling book with danger, adventure and a bit of romance. This is one book you don’t want to miss.I received a copy of this book from Librarything Early Readers Program. The review is my own opinion.

Lynette Eason has written another great suspense story. After surviving a bombing in Afghanistan, Brooke comes back to South Carolina to heal and meets the hero, Asher, who saved her in the bombing. Somehow the events in Afghanistan and a grisly graveyard in South Carolina seem to be connected and Brooke is right in the midst of it with her life being saved again by Asher. It keeps you turning the pages all the way to the end.

Suspected treachery. An ambush of Army troops. An explosion in a cafe. Collateral Damage begins with danger and excitement and these two elements continue throughout the book. Asher James and Brooke Adams both face near death during their Army service in Afghanistan but their individual returns to civilian life don't prove to be any safer. Brooke sets up private practice as a psychiatrist but soon becomes a target and it is former Army Sergent James who becomes involved in her protection. Asher is now a FBI agent and he and Brooke feverishly race to learn who is trying to harm her. Is there a cover-up involving incidents from their Army service? Were secrets really sold to jihadists and if so, was an innocent soldier labeled a traitor? Is it possible that there is something much more sinister that someone is hiding? Something worth killing for? This is the first book of a new series from Lynette Eason and she definitely grabbed my attention with her depiction of the ugliness of war and its aftermaths. Collateral Damage has villians, intrigue, and unthinkable acts caused by greed but Eason also adds heroes, faith, and the Christian values that our country was built on. Reading this book increased my pulse rate and caused me to lose sleep but it was definitely worth these side effects! This is romantic suspense at its best and I truly enjoyed Collateral Damage. I'm looking forward to the next book in the Danger Never Sleeps series.I received a complimentary copy of this book from Revell but I was under no obligation to leave a positive review. These are my own thoughts.

Lynette Eason's newest series, Danger Never Sleeps, starts out with a bang! I devoured Collateral Damage in less than 24 hours. To my knowledge, Eason hasn't touched upon military themes for a suspense book before. (Possibly in a Love Inspired story, although if so, it was a military hero, not an actual military-based story.) But I was very excited to see that the military was a heavy theme in this story! Some of my favorite suspense books are military suspense. (Ronie Kendig anyone?) The first two chapters are an explosion of action--literally--and drew me right into the story. I was quickly able to relate to our main characters, Asher James and Brook Adams. Both were complex and unique and I enjoyed getting to know them throughout the story.Suspense-wise, this book doesn't stop. (Did I mention I finished it in less than 24 hours?) With too many twists and turns to count, this is just what you'd expect from a suspense novel, and more specifically, a Lynette Eason suspense novel. Eason's trademark writing style is simple and succinct, without there ever being a lack of detail. The romance was also very "Lynette-style," and I always appreciate how things never become too sensual or detailed. (Although for more sensitive romance readers, there is some kissing, touching, and passionate thoughts.)All in all, I greatly enjoyed Eason's debut into her newest series, and I'm on the edge of my seat waiting for book 2! I highly recommend fans of romantic suspense, particularly with military themes, check this one out!FTC Disclosure: I received a complimentary copy of this book from the publisher. I was not required to write a positive review. These are my honest thoughts and opinions.

I loved this start to a new series by Lynette Eason. I am never disappointed with these stories. This one starts with a former army special ops soldier and a former military psychiatrist. These two both have stuff to work out from their time in a war zone. It ends up with them needing each other to help them through a lot of twists and turns. There is a little romance throughout and a lot of action. I can’t wait to find out how this story continues in the second book of the series. I received a copy of this book from Revell for a fair and honest opinion that I gave of my own free will.

"Collateral Damage" by Lynette Eason is the first book in her new "Danger Never Sleeps" series, and I have to say that I am thrilled to have discovered it. The action rarely stops, and when it does, the reader needs the break almost as much as the characters! This is a Christian Romantic Suspense title, and it lives up to the genre in all three senses of the phrase. The two main characters are Christians, as evidenced by the way they often say a quick silent prayer when they find themselves in dangerous situations. One character in particular regularly prays for the safety of the other. Both characters provide great role models for living out your faith in your everyday life, especially if yours is a dangerous one.The romance is also nicely done. The two main characters had known each other during their military service, and reconnected once both are back in the United States. Of course, their meeting up again occurs at exactly the same time that all of the dangerous stuff starts happening, so they are thrown together much more often (and for much longer) than they would have been in the normal course of events. Another reason that this book stands out for me is the dialog. Brooke and Asher actually talk to each other... a lot! The reader can easily understand how the attraction between them grows, as we see them really getting to know on another in the midst of the danger. As for the suspense part of the story....it's excellent! The storyline starts with something that happened in Afghanistan and affected both characters. It continues as the bad guys move to cover up their nefarious activity by eliminating threats to their secrets. There is never a dull moment, and the reader is taken along on a crazy thrill ride along with Brooke and Asher. On a related note, the action is always logical, and feels like it could actually happen in real life. Asher, in particular, is very resourceful, but never pulls off any feats of strength or MacGyver-like creativity that left me doubting a real person could actually manage them.Basically, I enjoyed every aspect of this story. It has plenty of believable action, plenty of prelude to the characters falling in love, and just the right amount of Christian content. All in all, I highly recommend this book!Five out of five ultra-fine slices of the best ultra-sharp cheddar!

Collateral Damage by Lynette Eason is the first in the Danger Never Sleeps series. My interest was captured from the very first chapter. Brooke Adams and Asher James are complex characters. Brooke is a woman who got burned out while helping military personnel and then harmed in the explosion. She held a man’s hand while he died and has a last item to give his wife along with a message. Brooke is suffering from PTSD and is dealing with it the best way she knows how. Asher James has been discharged from the Army and is having trouble dealing with the nightmares. Asher is a man who prefers not to reveal his feelings, but he believes Brooke is the one person he can talk to because she understands what he is going through. Asher rescued Brooke from the restaurant, so they have had similar experiences. The last thing Asher expects to find is a dead body in Brooke’s office. They experience an immediate connection which grows deeper as they evade the killers. The mystery was multifaceted. I do not want to say too much and give anything way. I like the complexity of the crime and how it was revealed bit by bit. I enjoyed figuring out who was involved and what they were up to. There are surprising twists and unexpected revelations. I especially liked the action which kept the story moving along at a fast pace. The author created such a delightful villain. I like how Christianity was incorporated into the story. The romance did not dominate. It developed as Brooke and Asher worked to stay alive and get the bad guys. There are quite a few characters and it can be hard to keep track of them at times. I enjoyed how everything came together at the end and I am looking forward to the next installment in Danger Never Sleeps series. Collateral Damage is an intense Christian suspense that you will not want to put down.

This book quickly became a riveting read, and hard to put down, but will also lingering with you. At first, I was asking myself how what seems to be two different stories, what relates them? When the answers begin to unfold it will make you sick, how much evil and greed there is and any anyone is expendable! The author gives us a several women with a lot of compassion, and with what they have been through, you marvel at how they are there for their fellow man.We are also given some good men, and without them the outcome of this story would surely have a different ending. If you like Christian suspense this one will keep you right to the end, and then some!I received this book through Net Galley and the Publisher Revell. and was not required to give a positive review.

Lynette Eason is an author that is new for me, her latest book Collateral Damage is the first novel in a new suspense series. There were plenty of twists and turns, in addition to some romance. The two MC’s are dealing with PTSD, and they supported one another whilst their families were not supportive of them at all. PTSD is very much real and I thought Eason covered this subject rather well. While I did like the premise, I do not really feel this particular story was for me. However, I would recommend this book to those of you that enjoy military, and law enforcement conspiracies.

Collateral Damage is the first book in the newest series of Lynette Eason. I have read several other books from Eason, and I truly enjoy her writing. This was fast paced and suspenseful. And while the book dealt with very heavy topics, the overall tone of the book was hopeful. This story was a fast read, and it will keep you on the edge of your seat. You will not want to put the book down till you find out what happens.

Collateral Damage is the first novel in a new suspense series by Lynette Eason. I found the two main characters, Brooke Adams and Asher James, to have strong, likable personalities. I enjoyed the relationship that developed between them over the course of the novel. There were plenty of twists and turns, as well as many near-death action scenes involving crashing vehicles and flying bullets. My thought while reading was that this would be an entertaining television series or movie. There were aspects of this novel that were disturbing and upsetting, but Eason delivers a message of hope along the way. The final message - that every person has worth and is valued by the Creator - is heartfelt and timely. I’m interested in reading more about these characters as the other books in the Danger Never Sleeps series are published.(I received this ARC in exchange for an honest review, thanks to LibraryThing.com and Revell Publishing.)

With “Collateral Damage” Lynette Eason start a new series, “Danger Never Sleeps”. This book concerns military veterans dealing with the traumas that came from their service in the Middle East, as well as an unknown threat that seems to have followed them home. There is a great deal of action and mystery going on, and a conspiracy that as it becomes known to the reader, is disturbingly evil. The book certainly held my interest, and the hero and heroine were admirable and relatable. I do question whether a plot like the one that is revealed would even be possible, and I find the motives of the lead villain to be somewhat muddled. Several supporting characters seem ripe for their own stories, and I am interested to see what comes next in this series.I received an advanced copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

I received this book in exchange for a honest review. Loved this book - great character development and storyline. The main characters, Brooke and Asher, were extremely likable and the author made them people you want to root for during every bad thing that happens. Would have been 4 stars for me if there had been no religious stuff as I don't particularly enjoy that in my fiction.
