I wouldn’t say that I loved it because I’m a scary cat but my 9 year old was really into the story. We’ve purchased many books and she easily gets bored and never completes these books. This one was perfect for her and now we can actually write the summary for the report. Thank goodness! Overall a def recommendation but I still got a little creeped out.

I think this book is quite good but its not the best book ever. It is something i would recomend but not all would enjoy it.If you like ghost and stories where you dont know whats happening til the end see this girl moves in and her care taker is a really mean old lady. The girl finds a doll in the garden she has to find out why its there and this ghost girl. After all sh finds out the old lady could be a friend.Read the book to find out why the old kady has to do with more of the story than you think.

    Book Description:
When Ashley discovers a turn-of-the-century doll it is just the first of several puzzling events that lead her through the hedge and into a twilight past where she meets Louise, an ailing child whose beloved doll has mysteriously disappeared.

    My Review:
This book is great to read if you are angry that someone you loved has died. Other themes of the story are forgiveness and friendship. A very quick read but well worth it.

Once again! Mary Downing Hahn will ALWAYS MAKE ME CRY with her ghost stories about loved ones, or loved pets! This author is still alive, and it will seriously be a huge LOSS to the world when we lose her.
After young Ashley and her mother lose their Dad/Husband to cancer, they move to a small town to start over....yes, this sounds so typical. Do not let this fool you....though labeled YA this story was so thrilling, and at the same time SO moving and sentimental. I LOVED this book and its way of telling you; life is too short to be hateful and or ungrateful.

I absolutely love this book. It's been one of my favorite since I was in Elementary school and it's stuck with me since then.

The kids and I enjoyed reading this book together. It touches a bit on the topic of death, but the ending is a positive/hopeful one overall.

A cheesy children's story. Not spooky, not creepy, just cheesy.

When Ashley and her mother move into the upstairs apartment of Old Miss Cooper's house, Ashley finds that things aren't always what they seem to be. Ashley finds herself caught between the cranky old landlady, a pesky and jealous neighbor and the ghost of a little girl. Solving this mystery might just be what everyone needs to make a difference in their lives. Once agan the author has done an excellent job of drawing the reader into the story.

My daughter enjoyed this so I read it. Really nothing special and very predictable. For the preteen set, I supposeit would beless predictable simply because they haven't seen this plot and cast as often, so it would probably be a fun, light, slightly haunting read.

Purchased at the local library sale table for .10, this was a quick, nothing of substance read. Attempting to read my huge stash of books before purchasing more, I happened to grab this off the shelf. When Ashlee and her mother move to the upstairs apartment of a bitter, nasty elderly woman, Ashlee roams the back yard gardens while her mother types away, preparing to finish her education in order to support the family.Finding a play mate, together they discover a Victorian doll buried in the woods. As both children hear cries of a young girl during the night, Ashlee travels deep into the woods to discover a very ill girl who lived and died a long, long time ago.Through a series of visits, Ashlee and her friend learn that the doll was taken by her friend and she would like to reclaim it. The girls put the pieces together to learn that the bitter landlady was the long-ago friend who took the doll. This is a story of grief and redemption. As Ashlee allows the tears to flow for her father who died of cancer, the landlady visits the woods, goes back in time and not only returns the doll, but has the opportunity to say goodbye to her friend who died of consumption.Again, nothing earth shattering, but I can claim that one more book is off the tbr pile, and will be given away to the library where I purchased it.

*spoilers!*Holy CRAP I was NOT expecting this book to be so good!! And I'm really not even sure why, but for some reason I thought it would be dull. ..... I was definitely mistaken. Big time. I don't think this is a *scary* ghost story, exactly.... not the kind that would keep me awake at night, anyway. But it's certainly *spooky* and very, very intriguing. The ghost girl from the front cover doesn't make her first appearance until almost halfway through the book, but the ghostly cat and the beautiful doll that holds some kidn of mystery, they pulled me into the story long before the ghost girl appeared.I knew that Miss Cooper would end up having something to do with the whole thing, but I was surprised with her actual relation to it all.... And OMG the ending was so SAD!!! I bawled, not just cried but seriously bawled. Going back to see Louisa and give her the doll back, and then the scene at the gravesite.... Wow. WOW.
