About this audiobook

Everything has a price . . .

Railway magnate Tom Severin is wealthy and powerful enough to satisfy any desire as soon as it arises. Anything—or anyone—is his for the asking. It should be simple to find the perfect wife—and from his first glimpse of Lady Cassandra Ravenel, he’s determined to have her. But the beautiful and quick-witted Cassandra is equally determined to marry for love—the one thing he can’t give.

Everything except her . . .

Severin is the most compelling and attractive man Cassandra has ever met, even if his heart is frozen. But she has no interest in living in the fast-paced world of a ruthless man who always plays to win.

When a newfound enemy nearly destroys Cassandra’s reputation, Severin seizes the opportunity he’s been waiting for. As always, he gets what he wants—or does he? There’s one lesson Tom Severin has yet to learn from his new bride:

Never underestimate a Ravenel.

The chase for Cassandra’s hand may be over. But the chase for her heart has only just begun . . .

Nice part of the series. I loved Cassandra and her gentle kindness to Tom and Basil

Lisa Kleypas is the best contemporary writer of Victorian romance novels. The third Ravenel sister, Cassandra, finds her ideal husband after many ups and downs and twists and turns. Delightful!

Tom Severin starts the series as a heartless villain. Turns out that he's Cornelius Vanderbilt mixed with BBC's Sherlock. Watching him warm up is just like watching Sherlock develop over the series. Since Benedict Cumberbatch is my favorite Sherlock & I've always been fascinated by the Vanderbilts, I absolutely love this story!

Another brilliant story. I think this was my favourite. Tom was so charming, dashing and sexy. Loved him. He is another Sebastian, one hero I can't get enough of.
Mary Jane Wells was brilliant as always.

Finally, Cassandra got her love match! After watching both of her sisters AND her 2 protectors (cousins) all fall in love and marry before her. Her connection with Tom Severin is almost instantaneous. And the love story between them is heartwarming. However, despite how charming and witty the couple are together or apart, my favorite character (hands down) is Basil ???

Another solid read in the series. Enjoyed it though I thought that Cassandra’s appearance was going to have more of a role in the story as her liking cakes was mentioned several times. It was never addressed why she suddenly gained weight over the past year? I just found it slightly odd to supposedly have a “plus size” heroine and not really do anything with that fact other than say she had to wear tighter corsets.

Excellent, I liked both leads, I liked that there wasn't a crazy amount of drama. There's humor, character growth, believable characters, all lovely things to read about. This is a very good series on the whole. I will read this one again sometime.

2nd read- I read this when it came out not too long ago, but it had been a while since I read the rest of the series (except Hello Stranger which is my favorite), so I reread those and by the time I got to this I went ahead and tacked it on the end anyway. I think it may actually be my second favorite of the series. Both characters are pretty reasonable, and believable, and endearing to me. The hero appears very stony but he's actually a good person despite himself (based on his belief that caring makes you vulnerable). I love how his little outer shell crumbles as the story unfolds. =D

This 5 star rating is mostly based on how much I enjoyed my time reading this book. This is my first time reading a Lisa Kleypas book and now I must read more. I picked this up because it was the only one in this series available at my library and I wanted to read more historical romance and I am so glad I did!

I was a little nervous going into this because I hadn't read much historical fiction and I know in the past I've enjoyed romance with a bit more plot but I think this proved to me that I can like more character driven romances when the writing is good and the characters are great.

I loved the main characters, Cassandra and Tom, and their relationship. Tom starts out as a very cold person who doesn't want to feel any emotions and focus only on his business that has made him a very wealthy man. Seeing him become a better person (and revealing the good parts that already existed) around Cassandra was everything I wanted out of this story. The way he treated her was just so wonderful. He really cared about her and her opinion and I loved watching him falling in love with Cassandra. Cassandra was also a great character. She knew what she wanted and she was assertive about that, even when it wasn't in her best interest. I loved her personality and seeing how much she cared about all the people around her. She had interests outside her relationships which I always love.

There isn't too much plot to talk about but I thought every beat in this story was handled so well. I loved the way Kleypas wrote the plot beats and how Cassandra and Tom reacted to news about each other. Even though there was less plot in this book than some other romances I've liked, what plot was there was handled very well.

I have so many books to read right now and I'm really trying to prioritize reading my physical TBR so I don't know when I'm going to read another book by Kleypas but I really really want to read more from her in the future and I hope I like some of her other books just as much as I liked this one.

Every once in a while I discover that I've missed a book in a series I've really enjoyed. Chasing Cassandra is one of those, so I was glad to discover the end book of the Ravenel series.Much like her sisters Helen and Pandora, Cassandra is not enthralled with any of the eligible men of the ton. Tom Severin, the wealthy railroad magnate, meets her and is instantly smitten. The romance is push-and-pull as both shy away from the attraction though neither seems able to give it up completely. They both agree that neither is what the other is looking for. It's a pleasant story, steamy in parts, and a quick read. It was fun to see the rest of the family and their assorted spouses again.

Cassandra Ravenel is determined to marry for love, Tim Severin has determined that the next thing he needs to do in his life is marry. The two of them are slowly orbiting each other and starting to realise that there is potential in a relationship, but can it work for both of them? He's so closed off, but he cares so much about her and about her happiness. He values logic above all but sometimes he does slightly crazy things to keep her happy. She just wants an interesting life and love. The two of them together are fun and I really enjoyed the read.

This entry into the Ravenel series is the story of Cassandra and Thomas Severin, both of whom we've met in preceding books. Overall I liked the story although there is a bit of sameness to other books, her tales are always interesting. Rather a variation on a familiar theme than a completely unique story. Tom is a stoic businessman always about the next move forward with his empire, Cassandra is a compassionate young lady who really doesn't have much in the way of skills, other than being happy and being her much more ambitious/rebellious/exciting twin's twin. However, it was a good story. I rather liked all the characters (even the young boy whose name escapes me at the moment) and the fact that the romance was an extended story rather than a whirlwind. I have to say I skipped most of the steamy sex scenes and primarily stuck with the story.Overall a good entry into the series by a very good writer.

With the last of the Ravenels married off I expect this is the end of this series, which makes me a bit sad. It was delightful mostly, and this might be the best of the lot. Cassandra and Tom are lovely and their banter, especially about novels, is a delight. Pure dreamy fun.

This final book in the Ravenels series wraps up loose ends with recurring characters. The fallen women is redeemed through marriage and love prevails. It is better as the end to a series than a stand-alone book.

There's nothing wrong with this book (er, there actually probably is technically) but it's not particularly compelling. It was easy to read, but veered to boring every so often. The characters are compelling enough, and the book does shine in their interactions. Everything else is pretty blah.

If you're a LK fan, read it, sure. If the rest of this series has largely disappointed, I'd skip it. If you haven't read her stuff, don't start here.

What I can appreciate is this series feels like a different formula. I'm not sure she has executed it well at this point but I can respect the effort.

As usual, there's some fun dialogue and swoony lines.

Wonderful read without much drama which I enjoyed. I’ve loved reading about the Ravenel family, and Cassandra’s story was no exception.

Love the Ravenels. Cassandra is feeling lonely and sad after the wedding of her twin sister, Pandora. Happy for her sister but now alone she’s facing a season of balls and meeting eligible young men with her sister to make it fun she cries to her cousin, West, not realizing that Tom Severin is in the room and overhears her. He’s quite taken with her and gives her a handkerchief and when she returns it she finds him in the kitchen fixing the hot water heater. He’s a genius but lacks empathy and doesn’t understand love but can’t get her out of his mind. Chance meetings and a mean campaign to ruin Cassandra’s reputation forces Tom to realize what’s important and to go after it.

This was such a great historical romance! I have been a big fan of Lisa Kleypas for many years so I was pretty eager to read this book. I had pretty high expectations for this book since I love the author's writing and have enjoyed other books in the series quite a bit. I was not disappointed. I really enjoyed reading Cassandra and Tom's story. This is the sixth book in the Ravenels series but it works perfectly fine on its own. Readers of the series will appreciate the opportunity to check in with well-loved characters but this book tells its own story. This book tells Cassandra and Tom's story. Cassandra's twin has just been married and she wonders if she will have the chance to do the same. She wants to marry for love but most of her suitors only seem to see her as a pretty face. Tom is a self-made man. He is extremely wealthy and intelligent but many still look down on him because he lacks a title.I loved Tom and Cassandra together. I thought that they had wonderful chemistry with each other and I loved the way they were able to learn from each other. They both seem to be the type of people to jump in and help when that is what is needed regardless of what others might say. They also try to do the right thing which was perfectly illustrated in how they were with the orphan boy who entered their life. At first, nobody believed that these two were suited for each other and it was interesting to see them try to stay away from each other. These two really were meant to be together.I would highly recommend this book to fans of historical romance. This was a wonderful tale filled with fantastic characters, wonderful chemistry, a few laughs, and a swoon-worthy romance. I can't wait to read more of Kleypas's work very soon.I received a digital review copy of this book from HarperCollins - Avon via Edelweiss.

Gorgeous read! I was enchanted by Cassandra and her relationship with railway magnate Tom Severin.Tom it seems is restless. "Things that gave him pleasure now bored him." With that jaded mind set Tom accepts an invitation to Pandora Ravenel's wedding and finds himself even more adrift. The now married Revenel men are no longer as amusing as they once were. How to dispel his mood? "Maybe he should marry" After all he's made his fortune, and marrying into the right circles should help to advance him socially.Retreating to the library whilst considering all this, he's quite startled when he overhears Pandora's twin Cassandra sobbing to West that she's now about to become an old maid, and proceeds to list her deficiencies.Such a delicious moment when the distant Tom, apparently a man who only knows FIVE emotions, leapt out of an alcove in the library and declared himself ready to marry Cassandra even though they'd never met. What propelled Tom to be so out of character? Well it appears "Tom Severin was smitten. Smitten and slain."I just loved the journey Tom takes discovering emotions he either didn't know existed or had never had the experience of. This man is in love and that emotion is totally foreign! I loved the dance between Tom and Cassandra. There's some quite delicious moments of repartee. And then there's the street urchin Bazzle. He's just a fabulous addition. Getting him cleaned up is even more hilarious. When Cassandra is "slandered by a rejected suitor" Tom leaves no stone unturned to rectify the situation. The tension mounts as their story unfolds towards the HEA they deserve. Such a satisfying read. Ah, the bliss of it all!A HarperCollins ARC via NetGalley

OMGoodness! I loved this book. I loved the story. I loved the characters. I loved the romance. Well, you get the picture. One of the things I liked most is that the heroine just wanted a home and a family to love. She didn’t want to flaunt society, she wasn’t out to blaze new trails, she just wanted a family with a husband who loved her. Cassandra was a delightful change from the current batch of heroines who would fit perfectly into our modern society. She wasn’t weak or cowed by the world, she just knew what she wanted and wasn’t willing to settle for less. Hmmm – so maybe she is actually the perfect bridge between the two worlds.Tom Severin was raised rough – and raised isn’t the right word, because he basically raised himself. When he was ten years old, Tom got work at the railway station and took care of his mother and sisters from then on. Now, he is a self-made gazillionaire. Tom is totally pragmatic and takes everything quite literally. Tom has totally closed himself off from emotions – feelings – as he calls them. He has only ever allowed himself five feelings – and love isn’t one of them. The previous few years have become sort of lackluster for him – making money isn’t as much fun as it used to be. At thirty-one he thinks maybe it is time to marry, but he has to choose carefully because it has to be someone who doesn’t expect him to love her. (You are going to fall in love with Tom yourself.)“Damn it, that makes six.” “Six what?” Devon asked in bewilderment. “Feelings, I’ve never had more than five feelings, and they’re hard enough to manage as it is. I’ll be damned if I’ll add another.”Lady Cassandra Ravenel is the opposite of Tom. She feels ALL of the feelings and revels in all of them. Her biggest worry in life is that she is a bit overweight and she’s self-conscious about it. She is bright and loving and wants a home and family of her own. She doesn’t want just any husband though – she wants one she loves and one who loves her in return. She’s had many offers of marriage, but they were all typical ton marriage proposals – more a business arrangement than a loving partnership. She’s refused all of the proposals because none of those men stirred her soul or her body. Then, she meets Tom Severin who stirs ALL of her senses – but he tells her upfront that he can’t/won’t ever love whomever he marries. The woman will just have to understand and agree to that upfront. One of the fun elements in the book is Cassandra getting Tom to read a novel. He’s never read one – after all they aren’t practical, have no use, and are about pretend people. His reactions and the ‘lessons’ he learns from the novels are so funny.Watching Tom come to be all he can be was an absolutely wonderful process – even though he fought it – but not too hard. Softhearted and sweet Cassandra really worked a number on him and it was wonderful to see when he finally learned the real ‘lesson’ from 'Around The World In Eighty Days'.“You’re saying if I gained another stone, or even two stones, on top of this, you’d still find me desirable?” “God, yes,” he said without hesitation. “Whatever size you are, I’ll have a place for every curve.”I voluntarily read and reviewed an Advanced Reader Copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
