About this audiobook

Miss Katherine Danvers has always been a wallflower. But now with her family on the brink of financial ruin, she finds herself a desperate wallflower. To save her family, she'll do anything. Luckily, she has the perfect plan . . .

She'll impress the ton by simply announcing she is engaged to the reclusive and mysterious Duke of Thornton, Alexander Masters, and secure strong matches for her sisters. No one has heard from the duke in years. Surely he'll never find out before her sisters' weddings and she can go back to her own quiet life.

Soon, though, everything is out of control. At first, it's just a few new ball gowns on the duke's accounts. Then it's interviews with reporters eager for gossip. Before she knows it, Katherine has transformed herself into Kitty Danvers, charming and clever belle of the ton-with everyone eager to meet her thankfully absent fiance.

But when the enigmatic Alexander Masters suddenly arrives in the city, dashing and oh so angry, he demands retribution. Except not in the way Katherine expected . . .

Contains mature themes.

Stacy Reid

I am an avid reader of novels with a deep passion for writing. I especially love romance and adore writing about people falling in love. I live a lot in the worlds I create and I actively speak to my characters (out loud). I have a warrior way “never give up on my dream.” When I am not writing, I spend a copious amount of time drooling over Rick Grimes from Walking Dead, watching Japanese Anime and playing video games with my love. I also have a horrible weakness for Ice cream. :)

I very much enjoyed the story but the narrator was atrocious. I know she is active in the romance space but she is just so unbelievably awful. Her accent is ridiculous and all over the place (she pronounces God as good). I think she is not English by birth and thus is trying to do an English accent but it sounds completely and utterly ridiculous. She also pauses weightily every 3 or 4 words and even listening at 2 times speed she sounded slow and weird. Book is worth buying and reading. I listened hoping she would stop irritating me but she never did. I almost stopped but powered through because the characters got me. The first part of the book was better than the dragging I’m a cripple and therefore not good enough for you second half that went a bit long for me. Still not a bad read.

This story is fantastic! The balance of strength and vulnerability is amazing. I finished it and immediately read it all over again. The best book I've read this year - hands down!

I love Stacy Reid’s writing style and have enjoyed many of her books but this one was way too slow and the narrator was horrible. Her slow breathy long drawn out words and reading style drove me crazy. It’s like she was trying to be sexy and seductive and it was just awful. I had to fast forward and skip around many times.

The couple was the thing in this book.
It was a close up (gross plan de cinema) of a relationship.
No tired plot fill up of dastardly older bad guy. No drunk brother in law arrassing the heroine.
    I loved it.

I loved this book! The love that both Alexander and Kitty held for one another went skin-deep and I found myself at the verge of tears multiple times throughout this entire book. I think this is my favorite Stacy Reid novel by far. The voiceover actress was excellent! I could close my eyes and envision each scene and character vividly. She made the book much more lively and I must credit her as one of the reasons I enjoyed My Darling Duke this much! I cannot wait for the second book in this series to come out... and I hope it’s the very same voice actress!

I absolutely love Stacy Reid's books but the narrator ruins them with her long drawn out breathy voice. The narrator does this in SO many of the audiobooks she narrates.

I think Stacy Reid has literally become one of my favorite authors. The way she writes peoples disabilities into books shows how these characters are impacted by them and, at last, how they overcome these difficulties.. but most importantly, how to love there disabilities. What is "Normal" within romance anyways? We can all learn how amazing and limitless love can truly be. This book was... EVERYTHING. Character chemistry ?. Real world problems?‍?‍➡️. Angst?‍♂️. HEA?.

Adorned this story…fell totally in love with the hero, Alexander. I could see why the heroine, Kitty, would want to sacrifice everything and surrender herself to him! Great romance, highly recommend!

I like this author and her style, this book had the feeling of a Beauty and the Beast retelling. I found myself really liking the two main characters as well as the supporting characters. I have to admit that the middle of the book was a bit filled with angst, but that being said I really enjoyed the proactive attitude of the heroine. All in all it was a romantic and feel good listen.

This book is well written with good character development. For my taste, the author spent too much time in the characters heads, leaving little room for much of a plot. Hope you like it.

This is a fun Beauty and the Beast retelling. Katherine Danvers is a wallflower but desperate to save her family from financial ruin. She spreads a rumor that she is engaged to the reclusive Duke of Thornton, Alexander Masters and starts charging to his accounts. While not especially historically accurate, it's an amusing read in a Bridgerton way. I love Beauty and the Beast retellings, and both Katherine and Alexander fulfill their parts admirably. The book sets up the rest of the series.

I absolutely loved this book. The characters were so well explored and they complemented each other perfectly. If you’re a fan of Tessa Dare or Evie Dunmore, you’ll love this!

It's obvious, fairly early on, that the hero should hold onto the heroine with both hands. And yet, he remains convinced that they can't make a go of it until nearly the very end. It didn't rub on me the way some do, but it really was beyond reason. A few different things were actually. Aspects that seemed like they weren't thought through all the way, and ended up with gaps in consistency and reasonableness.

Overall though, I enjoyed getting to know these characters and watching their story unfold.

My Darling Duke by Stacy ReidSinful Wallflowers #1Wallflower friends who have been out for awhile determine to create their own futures by doing what they would never do if diamonds of the first water. This group of friends decide to be a bit scandalous and in so doing forge their own futures...or at least guarantee their families a future. In book one of the series we meet most of the women but hear the story of how Katherine “Kitty” Danvers scandalously claims she is affianced to the Duke of Thornton. When he shows up at a ball she is not sure what will happen but puts her game face on and they meet together in a quiet room to...evaluate.At first I thought this would be a predictable silly story though I have always enjoyed this author’s books...it was predictable in that there is a HEA but unpredictable in the fact that some big issues were discussed and handled with delicacy...well...a bit of steamy delicacy. This book made me think and care and fall for the two main characters while wondering what would happen in book two of the series. What I liked:* The willingness of the wallflowers to move forward with their lives – even if it means scandalous* Kitty – she was willing to do what it took to provide security for her family. I also just liked her strength and willingness to honestly go for what she wanted* Alexander – a man of strength and honor who put his sister first and paid the price for it. He is a good man and once he finally realized what he really wanted – he went for it.* The story – I cared about the outcome and enjoyed reading how the two managed to come together...eventually.* The willingness to tackle a story with real issues that needed to be overcome for the HEA to occurWhat I didn’t like: * Alexander’s dithering and lack of self-worth – at times* The doctors’ negativity* Having to say goodbye to Katherine and AlexanderThank you to NetGalley and Entangled Amara for the ARC – This is my honest review.4-5 Stars

Series: Sinful Wallflowers #1Publication Date: 12/31/19I finished reading this book yesterday and it has been on my mind all day today. It is a wonderful book filled with wit, humor, and hope – so much hope. We have a truly traumatized and damaged hero and I absolutely loved how this author handled him, his injuries, his spirit, and his bleak outlook on his future. This could have been one of those dark, intense, angsty books that I hate, but it wasn’t that way at all. I’m not usually a huge fan of the retelling of fairy tales, but this Beauty and the Beast retelling was almost magical. This is my first book by this author, but I can assure you I will give her books another try.Katherine Danvers, her mother, and her sisters (Anna, Henrietta, and Judith) are in a very precarious situation. They are just one breath away from penury. When their father died without an heir, his title went to a relative – and that relative wasn’t in the least interested in providing for Kitty and her family. They had been living on their mother's small portion and that was almost gone. The hope was that Kitty would marry well and save them all, but in her fourth season, she hasn’t had any interest at all. She’s lovely, graceful and caring, but without a dowry and no connections, the men of the ton just aren’t smart enough to see her real value.Kitty has come up with a plan to save her family even though it will mean ruination for herself. She’s thought long and hard about it. She’s done thorough research and has now chosen the perfect person – the very, very reclusive Duke of Thornton who hasn’t been seen in London in over seven years. How can he possibly get wind of what she is doing when he is so far north at McMullen Castle in Scotland? Her plan is simple, she’ll announce her engagement to the duke, provide a cover story for their courtship, and then do her best to see that her sister Anna makes an advantageous match. That will save the family and Kitty can then announce that her betrothal has ended and while that will ruin her, the rest of her family will be safe.Alexander Masters, Duke of Thornton, may not have set foot in London in over seven years, but that doesn’t mean he doesn’t have family and friends there. When he gets a visit from his godmother asking about his betrothal, he’s intrigued and has his butler acquire copies of any and all scandal sheets that carry stories about him and his betrothed. As he reads those stories, he becomes more and more intrigued by that brave and intrepid lady who is brazen enough to claim a betrothal with him. He’s not angry (well, maybe a little) and isn’t looking for revenge (well, maybe a little) – he is just intrigued – and he sets off for London. He’s not sure what he’ll do when he gets there, but…Since her betrothal announcement things have sort of gotten out of hand for Kitty. Those lies have taken on a life of their own and she doesn’t have any idea how to control them. Then, at a ball, the Duke of Thornton makes his way to her and demands that they have a ‘talk’. Oh! My! Then things snowball and Kitty doesn’t know what to do. Will he denounce her and thus ruin not only her but her entire family? When he makes a demand she can’t refuse, she really is at a loss. Add in servants who want a romance between them, a sister who wants the same – well – that romance is definitely on a rocky roller coaster.I highly recommend this story and if it is indicative of the entire series – I can’t wait for the stories of the other wallflowers.I voluntarily read and reviewed an Advanced Reader Copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
