This inspirational suspense novel has a young woman named Piper who is unraveling a family mystery. She has returned home after an upsetting incident. Home is an island off the coast of South Carolina. Strange things keep happening to her and her family but she has the help of a forensic artist named Tucker who helped her during the upsetting incident. It's a good thing she has his help because as she discovers the truth about what is happening around her she isn't sure who she can trust - even among her own family members.

I'm not really into Christian themed romance -- thought this was entirely mystery/suspense, and was surprised when the god talk started taking over. Very twisty, mostly unrealistic, god-to-the-rescue. I'm astonished that it managed to cram 2 boat explosions, a hurricane, a mass shooting and secret family all into one adventure -- that is impressive! I wish I could say that I enjoyed it, but I found it hard to like the characters or their lifestyle, so it was also hard to care when they started dropping like flies. The forensic artist angle was interesting, and I appreciated that the animals survived. Just not my cup of tea.

While Carrie Stuart Parks is a favorite author of mine, I was not a big fan of her novel Relative Silence. It really should have checked all the boxes for me — fast-paced suspense set on the Georgia coast (Georgia is my home state), with a twisting plot. Instead it fell a bit flat. I never really clicked with the characters and I found the plot somewhat predictable, even with its many twists and turns. It was almost like I could see them coming. I am definitely in the minority — members of my book club loved it and it won the 2021 Christy Award for Mystery/Suspense/Thriller. This only goes to show that the reading experience is very subjective and can be influenced by mood and circumstances. I urge you to check out other reviewers’ thoughts on this book. Parks is a great author and my experience with this book in no way will influence my reading other books by her.Audience: Adults.(I purchased a copy of this book from Amazon. Title: Relative SilenceAuthor: Carrie Stuart ParksPages: 336Year: 2020Publisher: Thomas NelsonMy rating is 5 out of 5 stars.Piper Boone is hiding out at the family mansion on remote Curlew Island, South Carolina. She has faced tragedy many times in her life and now she is just trying to make it through each day. Her family is wealthy and considered the local aristocracy. There is one other inhabitant on the island, a neighbor who calls wanting to talk to Piper. Piper is out to lunch with a friend when shots ring out, leaving her friend dead. Piper was protected from the shooter by a nearby man, Tucker Landry. After this terrible event, Piper returns to the island. Piper has missed the call from her neighbor and wonders why the neighbor called. She decides to visit the neighbor but finds her home empty. It appears as though she just got up and left with her granddaughter due to arrive for a visit in a few days.Tucker Landry is a forensic artist and after his recovery from the bullet wound suffered while saving Piper, the police ask him to sketch the shooter from Piper’s description as she remembers seeing him. Tucker arrives on the island and meets Piper’s family. Her mother is cold, distant and only concerned with appearances and her son’s political career. Her brother is running for office but seems to genuinely care for Piper. Tucker is dealing with his own grief and sees Piper struggling with her grief. Shortly after Tucker arrives on the island, a body is discovered. From that point, the action, suspense and mystery are nonstop. Oh yeah, on top of all this, there is a hurricane quickly approaching the island!I thoroughly enjoyed this story! The complex plot and characters drew me into the story right away. Piper’s quoting movie lines and titles when she gets stressed was an interesting way to cope. The lengths that some people will go to in order to keep secrets hidden was enlightening. Piper and Tucker both discover that people aren’t necessarily who they appear to be. There are many twists in the plot that will keep readers guessing and engaged until the very end!Note: The opinions shared in this review are solely my responsibility.

Relative Silence was a fascinating mystery that kept me turning the pages! I love a book where the author really keeps me guessing and unsure of who to trust. At the beginning of this book, Piper goes through a life changing event that is still haunting her to this day. Then in present day, she is forced to contend with much more as she realizes that someone may be trying to kill her although she has no idea why. The book really goes from there and let's just say that I was turning the pages as fast as I could to figure it all out. I'm trying not to give anything away so sorry if that all feels very vague. I will say that I liked that we as the reader didn't know who to trust or what was really going on. The only thing that I knew for sure was that it must tie in to what had happened so long ago (even if I didn't know how or why). It made for a very suspenseful read in my opinion! This book is Christian fiction but honestly I hardly noticed. It wasn't heavy handed or preachy which I really appreciated. There were some great side characters that I also really appreciated as well. One was a detective named Mandy who is trying to help Piper out throughout the book. Piper also grows as an individual throughout this book which I couldn't help but appreciate. I wasn't too sure of her at first but by the end I was really rooting for. She had so much strength despite everything and I couldn't help but admire that. I also really liked the fact that the weather and setting played such an important part of this book. Being caught on an island with a hurricane bearing down caused the tension to level up quite a few notches for me. Those last 100 pages just flew by as I had to see how everything would end!Overall, I enjoyed my time which this book and would definitely be open to reading more by this author. I finished this book in just a matter of days because I couldn't (and didn't want to) set it down. It was a really solid mystery that kept me guessing until the very end. I will say that there were a few things relating to the mystery that I figured out while reading but I definitely didn't guess who was behind it all. I really appreciated that the author was able to take me by surprise with the way that this book ended. I think that readers who enjoy suspenseful reads, mystery lovers, and Christian fiction readers would all enjoy this book. Recommended!Bottom Line: A suspenseful mystery that kept me guessing until the very end.Disclosure: I received a copy of this book thanks to the publisher as part of a PICT book tour. Honest thoughts are my own.

"We believe she was still on the boat. I'm afraid she is missing" ends the prologue of Relative Silence by Carrie Stuart Parks. The first chapter has Piper Boone on the ground under a man who is protecting her from gunfire. Her friend and lunch partner lies where Piper can see her, dead. Who is doing the shooting and who is the man on top of her and who is he shooting at and why? These are the questions that were running through my mind as I started the book.Because of the death of her daughter, her marriage ended in divorce. She is living on an island owned by her family. Her family comes to the island once a year for the board meeting for the company. She doesn't get along well with her brother or mother. The man who saved her life is in the hospital recovering after having been shot. She is drawn to him and wants him to help her figure out how her daughter died. A woman who lives on the island has gone missing and the woman's granddaughter arrives on the island to help figure out where her grandmother maybe. As Piper and Tucker Landry, the man who saved her, dig deeper into what happened they come to find out that her family's history has a lot to do with it.I love a good psychological thriller and found this one to be compelling and easy to get into. I read it in a few sittings. I found myself to be truly immersed in the story. I was totally surprised by the ending, didn't see it coming at all. From doing a bit of research I found that the author has written a few great-sounding novels. I hope that there is a sequel to Relative Silence, I can see the story continuing! Loved it and highly recommend this novel

Relative Silence is a roller coaster ride of twists and turns and perfect for lovers of suspense novels. This newest novel from Carrie Stuart Parks centers around the Boone family and takes place on Curlew Island, a private island off the coast of South Carolina. Because there have been so many tragedies over the years on this island, it is believed to be cursed.Death is no stranger to the Boone family as Piper, the main character, has lost her father, sister, and toddler aged daughter to tragic accidents on the island over the years. Now it appears someone is after Piper. She meets Tucker Landry, a forensic artist, after he saved Piper when a shooter opened fire at the restaurant where Piper and a friend were eating. They team up and it's a race against the clock to figure out who wants Piper dead and why. This is a story full of family secrets, suspects, and motives so I found myself changing my guess all the way throughout the book. I was totally surprised at the end when everything was finally explained. This is my second novel by Carrie Stuart Parks and I really appreciate how she works her own background in forensic art into her stories. I think the combining of forensic art to help solve crimes adds a unique aspect to her stories because of her experience.I received an e-book of this story through Netgalley. All opinions expressed are my own.

The pages flew as I devoured this read, what an amazing job this author did with this book.We are given a woman who has suffered the loss of her precious child, and although fifteen years has past, her grief has never gone away. She comes from an affluent family and uses most of her money to help helpless animals. So now why did someone try to kill her? Well the event at the beginning of the book ends up with her friend dead and a man wounded. Random? Keep reading! My mind was trying to figure out what was going on here, but I never got it right. You think you know what is going to happen and whom is involved, maybe you will be right, but I doubt it.I loved the epilogue, maybe not what your expecting, but surprises abound!I received this book through Net Galley and the Publisher Thomas Nelson, and was not required to give a positive review.

Relative Silence, by Carrie Stewart Parks, is a fast paced who done it story. It is full of action and suspense. This is a modern day story set in South Carolina on Curlew Island, which has been owned by the Boone family for four generations. The story opens with the death of Piper's young daughter and fast forwards 15 years. Piper is visiting a friend when a shooter attacks where they are eating. Piper is saved by a stranger from out of town, whom she takes in until he heals. Tucker is forensic artist and Piper asks him to draw what her daughter would look like now. This leads her to the granddaughter of a missing neighbor. Just when they seem to be making progress, a storm comes in and the family has to flee and evil surrounds them. The Boone family has similarities to the Kennedy family. The families are both well know, influential families with their own private estates. Each family has had more than their share of strange deaths. Piper's younger sister dies in a freak accident, her other sister has not been seen for years, and her brother is running for office. This is a great story that focuses on family, grief, lost and secrets. The story is well written and very detailed. The characters are well introduced and easy to follow. I totally enjoyed this story and was disappointed when it ended. The story has many twists and turns and I was not expecting it to end the way it did. I would recommend this story to anyone who enjoys who done it type stories. I received a complimentary copy of this book. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.
