About this audiobook

"[Narrator Julia] Whelan's performance is unforgettable in this darkly romantic fantasy about one young woman cursed always to be forgotten...Her depiction of the darkness is smooth with a low cadence, capturing listeners' attention and their heart strings." –Booklist

In the vein of The Time Traveler’s Wife and Life After Life, The Invisible Life of Addie LaRue is New York Times bestselling author V. E. Schwab’s genre-defying tour de force.

A Life No One Will Remember. A Story You Will Never Forget.

France, 1714: in a moment of desperation, a young woman makes a Faustian bargain to live forever—and is cursed to be forgotten by everyone she meets.

Thus begins the extraordinary life of Addie LaRue, and a dazzling adventure that will play out across centuries and continents, across history and art, as a young woman learns how far she will go to leave her mark on the world.

But everything changes when, after nearly 300 years, Addie stumbles across a young man in a hidden bookstore and he remembers her name.

This audiobook is out of order in some parts. The chapters repeat, jump around, or are out of order.

Book is good, the Scribd version of the audiobook is bad.

If I were to only rate Julia Whelan’s performance narrating this book it’ll be five stars without any shade of doubt. It was a marvelous narration.
The book itself... let’s say I wouldn’t be able to finish it if I were to read it with my eyes.

I remembered send a message to my friend when I read about 6 chapters, telling her that it's not a fantasy like other Schwab's but more like romance and it's slow. Then, here I am, Finished reading this book and gave it 5 Stars.
I like following Addie's journey and see how her character developed. Though I am wrong, this book is not just about romance. This book is about a girl who wants to live her life as her own, who will learn how to life as her wish and who will pay the cost herself.

'Whatever this is, she knows it will not last. She lived too long to think it chance, been cursed too long to thing it fate' p.195

Overly long and verbose for the story it contains, which is a mediocre love story at best. Narrator was fantastic even though I had to speed her up a bit to get through this slog of a story. It felt like 300 yrs worth of listening for a story and characters that weren’t worth it at all. Repetitive and overly flowery language that smacked of an author being in love with her own creations and writing. This is an overhyped book. Not sure I’ll come back to this author and I hope to forget Addie just as soon as every else does.

This is without a doubt a 5⭐ read!
The story of Addie's present alongside with Addie's past (what she's been through the 300 years that separate both time lines) was really well told!
Love the storytelling, the world building, Addie is a character with so many layers and I loved to go through all of them! Henry was a blessing of a character and made me cry near the end. Luc was someone who I hated but also really liked because of all his nuances, a good villain he was!
Such a gift of a story with a bittersweet ending!

Beautiful book. I was hesitant to try it after I didn't like the author's Shades of Magic, but this is far far superior. Wonderful language and the masterful narration makes the audiobook an amazing experience.

There were so many opportunities for some excellent historical fiction (300 years worth!) and she did absolutely nothing with it. There were several times when she brings the reader to the edge of a very interesting scene and instead of delving into it she walks away. The author spent too much time developing characters that were basically inconsequential. She repeats herself way too much and drags it on for way too long. You could cut out 2/3 of the book and it would still feel too long. The idea was a great one and the potential for greatness was there but it failed.

It's all romance. The writing provides no sense of time and place, and history is kind of lost even though the story takes place over 300 yrs. We mostly just get scenes of her life with male lovers or one woman lover. I didn't get a real sense of the character.

While I enjoyed the beginning and how the lore behind this deal-with-the-darkness came to be and the subtle hints given it became boring and tiresome by the end. I just wanted it to get to the point. Truthfully, I had a more tragic ending pictured in my mind so how it went down had me rolling my eyes.

Such a realistic and beautiful story — kept me at the edge of my seat the whole time. I had to pause the book just because I didn’t want it to end. If you’re not sure whether to pick this up or not — just do it. It’s worth the read, I guarantee it. Speechless.

Loved the story. I read the book along with listening to the audio. There are a handful of discrepancies in the audio compared to the text but nothing that really impacts the story. That is the only reason this audio isn't 5 stars
