SELECTION OF THE REESE WITHERSPOON BOOK CLUB
A HIGHLY ANTICIPATED, BEST BOOK OF SUMMER SELECTED BY * VOGUE * USA TODAY * ENTERTAINMENT WEEKLY * CNN * TOWN & COUNTRY * PARADE * BUSTLE * AND MORE!

A “gripping” (Entertainment Weekly) mystery about a woman who thinks she’s found the love of her life—until he disappears.

Before Owen Michaels disappears, he smuggles a note to his beloved wife of one year: Protect her. Despite her confusion and fear, Hannah Hall knows exactly to whom the note refers—Owen’s sixteen-year-old daughter, Bailey. Bailey, who lost her mother tragically as a child. Bailey, who wants absolutely nothing to do with her new stepmother.

As Hannah’s increasingly desperate calls to Owen go unanswered, as the FBI arrests Owen’s boss, as a US marshal and federal agents arrive at her Sausalito home unannounced, Hannah quickly realizes her husband isn’t who he said he was. And that Bailey just may hold the key to figuring out Owen’s true identity—and why he really disappeared.

Hannah and Bailey set out to discover the truth. But as they start putting together the pieces of Owen’s past, they soon realize they’re also building a new future—one neither of them could have anticipated.

With its breakneck pacing, dizzying plot twists, and evocative family drama, The Last Thing He Told Me is a riveting mystery, certain to shock you with its final, heartbreaking turn.

I kept my attention all the way to end. But for me I didn't enjoy the plot. It didn't make since to me. It worth the listen. And had me guessing until the reveal, and than i was just confused how the plot made any since or why the characters acted the way they did. Anyway not a bad book but not for me, and I wouldn't recommend it to my friends. But for someone who likes polite, romantics sure.

The book was ok (a bit derivative) but for me the narration was the real negative. Kind of draggy. I didn’t like the characters but I can’t decide if that was because I just didn’t like them or because I didn’t like the way they were voiced.

The narrator SLURS badly and annoyingly!!! I couldn’t get past it.

Starts off well. Story becomes increasingly less believable as it goes on. Still stuck around till the end & had some good emotional pulls as a payoff. But overall, not very well written. Lazy. Thin. Unimaginative.

On the plus side, fantastic narration.

Excellent. When I read the synopsis I thought oh no not another Gone Girl want a be, I was happily mistaken. This wonderfully crafted tale keeps every chapter a page turner to find out what will happen next. Story great through to the last word!

I enjoyed the first half of this book, it was really suspenseful and kept me captivated. The middle to end just kind of flopped for me…it’s like they gave away too much information too soon and the mystery was over. The narrator was excellent but the phrase “it stopped me”, “this stopped me”, “that stopped me” was ridiculously and obnoxiously repetitive!

Everything! Weak plot/poorly conceived/illogical/contrived. Such a waste of my time.

It was okay I was say read listen to it

I didn’t like the end, everything stayed inconclusive… the novel structure is emotive and keep you lock but the ending left too many open windows.
  • (4/5)
I would give 4.5 stars. Enjoyable the way it led you through the search.

Ok for beach or summer reading. Did not find the story compelling. There was no mystery as to the husband leaving. Pretty obvious from the get go. Half way through I lost all interest in the characters or where the story would end(although I did stay to the end). I particularly found the wife and daughter annoying.

Predictable and I didn't care for the characters as much.

A wonderful read. Keeps you on your seat waiting for all the puzzle pieces to fall into place.
  • (4/5)
Good story- keeps you interested. Narrator did a great job.
  • (5/5)
This was a gripping read!! I took in 80% of it on the first day only stopping bc of life responsibilities. LOL! I don’t want to spoil any of it mentioning names or the mystery behind the plot…but at its core, this novel is about trust, what makes a true family, the bonds that bind them, and the selflessness that makes it stick.

I wasn’t expecting much but was pleasantly surprised. It was an excellent story and the ending was not the conclusion I was expecting.
  • (4/5)
Hanna is an amazing character, true, not embellished,I liked it a lot.

  • (4/5)
So good I didn't want to put it down. This one kept my attention until the end.
  • (5/5)
Excellent- the imagery is phenomenal. I was glued to this auto, my 10yr old daughter begin asking me every time when we got in the car what’s going to happen next.

This was very different from a lot of books in my recent listening journeys. It was a wonderful story with likable characters. I am not so sure I could have done what Hannah did. The end of this story brought tears to my eyes. I really enjoyed this story very much and the narration was also very good.
