    Divorced, desperate, and destitute, former restaurateur Defiance Dayne finds out she has been bequeathed a house by a complete stranger. She is surprised, to say the least, and her curiosity gets the better of her. She leaves her beloved Phoenix and heads to one of the most infamous towns in America: Salem, Massachusetts.

    She's only there to find out why a woman she's never met would leave her a house, a veritable castle that has seen better days. The lawyer assigned to the case practically begs her to take it off her hands, mostly because she's scared of it. The inanimate structure that, as far as Dephne can tell, has never hurt a fly.

    Though it does come with some baggage. A pesky neighbor who wants her gone. A scruffy cat who's a bit of a jerk. And a handyman bathed in ink who could moonlight as a supermodel for GQ.

    She decides to give it three days, and not because of the model. She feels at home in Salem. Safe. But even that comes to a screeching halt when people begin knocking on her door day and night, begging for her help to locate their lost objects.

    Come to find out, they think she's a witch. And after a few mysterious mishaps, Dephne is beginning to wonder if they're right.

      It was So good! I loved the characters and plot twists!

      This book is hilarious, the first time I’ve ever laughed out loud, like really laughed, not a chuckle, reading a book. I love the characters. You really feel like you know them and fall in love with them. I just listened to the audiobook a second time because it’s so good. Such a fun and entertaining read (or listen)!

      Had potential. Part of the underlying story was interesting. Sadly the over description of unnecessary things and the annoying personality of the main character was painful to get through. I was excited to get a story about a 40+ year old female lead but she was extremely juvenile and pretty stupid. That coupled with the other characters being pretty unlikable, untrustworthy, or just uninteresting made it hard to like anyone. I really wanted to like this, but it was definitely a dud for me and wont bother with the rest in the series.

      Ok, I typically like Darynda’s books. This one was awful. I was wondering if it were written for kids- it was that bad. Only the profanity let me know it was an adult book. This isn’t anywhere near the Charlie Davidson series or her new series with Sunny which is really good. I had a hard time finishing it but pressed on hoping it would get better. I won’t be listening to the rest of the series. This one was painful enough.

      Okay so I enjoyed the storyline, but YES Defiance is VERY childish!!! I understand things are new for her, but she's like a 4 year old with all the questions. I'm going to continue because I am curious how things will pan out, but I hope she gets a little more mature.

      A fun easy and intriguing and funny read this is your book! What more can you ask for than hot guys magic adventure and humor? Love this book can't wait to listen to the rest of the series. Also narration was tip notch quality!

      As always when it comes to this author it was a funny story with lots of magic and lovable characters. I loved the whole cast and what I love even more is that they are mid-life. Roan and Def are adorable together. Darynda Jones leaves us with a cliffy so I'll get on to the next one right away!
