He grew up in Wismar on the Baltic Sea and Streichwitz, a small village about 120 km east of Berlin, near the Polish border. Being mixed race in a totally white society, he had a hard childhood and youth. Thinking that life would be easier for him in West Germany, he attempted to escape from communist East Germany at the age of twenty, but was captured and put in a holding facility. After breaking out of the holding center, he was caught and sentenced by the communist judicial system to life in prison. Thanks to the fall of the Berlin Wall in 1989, he was released, having served 10 years.
Today, Andre Baganz has realized his dream of becoming a writer. He lives in Bonn/Germany, is married and has three daughters.view less
