Elderedge defines successful fathering as words of affirmation combined with love. Although these are important, they fall short of a biblical worldview. Successful fathering is leading my family to Jesus. Elderedge does present the value of gospel in relationships, but misrepresents it as being primarily about healing broken family relationships. The gospel may bring that about, but it is primarily about restoring my relationship to God by forgiving my sins, and thus bringing God the glory he deserves. This short booklet gave me a couple helpful hints, but it will not serve as serious source on fathering from a biblical point of view.
