Both of these books are preparatory books that teach us how to read the Zohar and thus learn how to unlock the gates. The Zohar requires the study of how to read it before one takes on the actual task of the study. These are not easy books and meant for the serious Kabbalah student, who understand that even if they do not always understand what they are reading, their desire to understand is drawing the Light that will correct.
