      Introduction

      You got to wonder about someone who would attach his name to a book about scams. Am I some sort of shady pool hall character who got caught, was sent to prison and then saw the light? Maybe court ordered to so?

      Or am I a world class victim who has been taken advantage of repeatedly and wants to share what I have learned the hard way?

      Actually my motivation is none of the above. I am basically an honest soul who mercifully has been suckered only a handful of times in his life.

      What compelled me to write the Little Book of Scams is that a) I am a small business owner, b) I have friends/family who also own small businesses, c) I am a hypnotist by trade and have a deeper understanding of communication than most, d) for as long as I can remember I have had zero tolerance for bullies and manipulators.

      What I learned long ago when I first went into business for myself is that an unintentional side effect of publicizing your products and services is that this increased visibility makes you a more likely target for scam artists and other predatory types.

      Also, the personality required to successfully ingratiate yourself with the buying public also has creates vulnerabilities-more on that later. However the information in this book can be helpful to the non-business owner as well.

      You may have taken some business course to learn how to bring money in and to control expenses. Yet it is doubtful you received any training on how to avoid losing money to scam artists.

      The experience of being taken to the cleaners by a scam artist can be emotionally scarring and may leave you paranoid and overly suspicious

      My background as a hypnotist enables me to better understand the mechanisms of persuasion better than most. For a number of years I have helped people overcome negative habits like smoking and to reduce unhealthy fears and stress.

      Someone who has an understanding of hypnosis and has benevolent intentions can help others heal their minds and bodies. However, the same communication principles can be misused by the unscrupulous since a lot of your decision making processes are more unconscious than you realize.

      It is a concern that a book like this could be educational tool for people who want to do wrong. While I admit that is a possibility, to my way of thinking the more people who have an awareness of these psychological scam tactics, the less effective they will become and it
