Blood dripping off my hand, running down my arm, I had just encountered the sharp end of a piranha.
The previous day I had been the victim of a well executed crocodile bite, my jungle guide’s quick reactions putting an end to my agony as he pried open the jaws of my reptilian assailant.
For the next three days the pain I experienced was compounded exponentially by the giggles, reenactments and laughter of little Amazonian Indians as they relived the excitement that accompanied the arrival of the tall scraggly gringo in their little pueblo.
Somewhere on the banks of an Amazonian tributary, a week by dugout canoe from any form of civilization, my
