About this ebook
We've combined two of our best selling books on the $67 Billion Dollar U.S. Vending Industry;
Truth in Vending
Most people don’t start their own business because they are laboring under a set of misconceptions about what it takes to be successful. While the misconceptions vary with each business, in the vending world some of the most common ones are ‘you can’t compete with the big boys’ and ‘you have to know someone who is already successful in the industry.’ The purpose of Truth in Vending is to provide a road map to help you go forward as quickly and as successfully as possible, and most important, to keep you from making the mistakes most new business owners fall victim to. In it we show you how to find your target locations, evaluate them and develop a plan for each. We provide a 10-point plan for vending profit and thoroughly explain each point. We explain how third-party vending offers tremendous advantages, particularly if you don’t care to be involved in the daily details of route servicing. Financing, leasing and choosing machines are just a few of the other topics this vital e-book covers.
Business Opportunities Unveiled
If you are thinking seriously about vending, you have probably heard of ‘business opportunity’ companies which offer to sell you vending machines and help you place them in lucrative locations. You may even have spent some money pursuing such an opportunity, and come to regret it. Business Opportunities Unveiled removes the veil that surrounds these companies, and shows you why they are usually a waste of time. We explain how the machines these companies sell are cheaply made and quick to wear out, and how these companies use financing offers, ‘singers’ and the ‘Charity Gimmick’ as ‘hooks’ to get your business. We show how you can make money with bulk vending machines, if you do it the right way. You will find out where to go to get help if you have been taken advantage of by a business opportunity company, and even how to get rid of cheap vending machines you may have purchased.
Jimmy Ingram
THE AUTHOR Jimmy Ingram is one of those rare individuals who is able to not only learn from life experiences but can also translate the lessons from his past into bite-size actionable and profitable plans for himself and for others. Jimmy began his entrepreneurial career with his business partner Richard Goudie in the bookstore business. In 5 years they created 25 bookstores and sold them to fulfill a shared dream of building their own supper club. Over the next several years they opened restaurants in Washington, DC, Atlanta, and Ft. Lauderdale. Less than a decade later, at the age of 31, they found themselves completely broke and living in a one-room motel in Vienna, Virginia. Their only remaining asset was a small game-machine vending route. With the help of a mentor they turned that small route into a multimillion dollar vending empire. Jimmy and Rick shared a passion, the food and beverage business, so they used their new found profits to build a huge vending business, and develop and operate restaurants in DC., Virginia, Maryland, Atlanta, Miami, and South Beach. One of Jimmy’s and his business partner Rick’s unique contributions to vending was to create a Vending Lease Management business model which allows anyone to start with little investment and grow at his or her own pace. This approach has allowed his company to overturn over 1,000 high-volume vending locations and sell them to 3rd party vendors, while continuing to receive a percentage of sales, all without owning or servicing a single vending machine. In the process of concentrating on the vending machine business, Jimmy gained an amazing array of insights he has shared with others who have created their own multi million-dollar businesses. Jimmy’s and Rick’s approaches to building high-volume vending routes, arcades, and a highly successful Vending Lease Management business have been detailed in 14 books. They cover the range from business opportunities to coffee and water service, creating successful arcades and a number of how-to guides. These include how to choose the right vending machines, purchase the right route truck, create high-volume vending routes, overturn and sign high-volume vending locations, sell high-volume locations for thousands or even tens of thousands of dollars while achieving 80%-90% profits and 3% of each location's gross sales for the life of the contract.

LABORING UNDER CORRECT KNOWLEDGE IS THE KEY
THE PROFITABLE WORLD OF FULL LINE VENDING
Being an entrepreneur can be very rewarding. Sometimes business is up, sometimes it is down. When you belt a grand slam it is the greatest feeling in the world, right there with falling in love. You do not always have to make a million dollars. Breathing life into an idea and turning a mere thought into a viable business is one of the most creative processes on earth.
Full-line vending is a business that can be developed one location at a time. It is similar to playing golf or pool—if you become skilled at it, you can go head-to-head with companies that are more experienced or financially sound. This is possible because these companies will (often unwittingly) handicap or spot
you what you need to make the game even, just like a better golfer will spot you to convince you to play. A spot
in gaming parlance is when the better of two players gives something up to the other so the wager might be fairer. The more established vending companies will do the same thing, and you can take advantage of it.
Here is how it works. In games like pool and chess, a good player will always visualize his next half-dozen shots or moves, just as a good business person thinks ahead and is open to new ideas. But a huge percentage of the current vending companies doing business today, large and small, local and national, follow the same outdated methods and philosophies. Like Tyrannosaurus Rex, they are just waiting around for a giant comet to fall on their heads.
A basic truism of the business is that vending is one of the few industries where almost every person who works for manufacturers, distributors or suppliers has never owned or operated his or her own route. If they did, they probably would not be on the employee side of the fence. If they believed acquiring high-volume locations was readily achievable, they would probably jump the fence and open their own vending company. But they, like many outside the industry, have a skewed view of the business.
The fact is, they have all bought into the industry myth, legends such as you must have experience,
or you have to advertise,
or you have to have a truck,
or you cannot compete with the Big Boys,
or you have to know someone in the industry who is successful.
All of these legends are false. Can having all of the above help? Maybe. From my experience, I believe a blank page is better - no bad habits, no misconceptions.
In this case, it is not who you know, it is what you know! And that is where The ABC’s of Incorporation, Truth in Vending, and Vending for Profit come into the picture.
The books and the website were initially created to guide small and medium sized businesses and would-be vendors as they acquire their own locations. But it has expanded into much more. It is a comprehensive program that will arm you with everything you require to be successful in vending. Vending, much like the average small business, is not an enterprise that requires a PhD or being the proverbial rocket scientist. Running most businesses takes a combination of common sense and what we call LUCK—Laboring Under Correct Knowledge – all seasoned
