Triple Tales of Suspense - Paul Sheets
INTRODUCTION
These three short stories are about certain people and events that have, or might happen. Our first story will take us to the garden of Penelope Pritchard whose amazing roses seem to like people, for food. Find out what happens to those who look at her flowers.
My second story is about a mob collector who leaves his bosses for better pay with a new sometimes human boos. The mob bosses get mad but the guy they think is a human, ‘Mr. D’ gets even madder; find out what occurs to them and Vinnie as you read along.
Mr. Durban is an art collector of sorts, but when his collection of masterpieces is destroyed, he begins a new form of art with an even weirder collection. Step inside as we travel through these three strange stories.
THE KILLER ROSES
IT was a beautiful and warm summer day when the Pritchard’s moved into their new estate, consisting of 10 acres with a three and one half million dollar, multi roomed house, swimming pool, and two tennis courts, it was quite a place to be seen.
It had a long circular drive that went by the front door, and three car garages, a fountain in the front yard with a muse pouring water from a jar, and a Gazebo in the back yard.
This was Penelope’s new dream home, but something would happen there later, because of Penelope Pritchard, that would make their new home a place of death.
The back yard consisted of a small flower garden, gazebo, the swimming pool, and a large covered patio, with multiple potted plants on it.
The Pritchard’s were ecstatic about their new home, and were very busy for the next few weeks moving all of their belongings into their new home, but, they
tended to neglect the upkeep of the exterior until they had finally settled in.
Richard Pritchard was Penelope’s husband. He was a retired C.E.O. for a major corporation which created computer design software for industrial plants and processors. His financial successes were numerous, and well known.
He had everything going for him, but his retirement had turned his attention to relaxing and collecting African art.
He was 5’10’ in height, had wavy, neatly cut black hair and blue eyes. Rather muscularly built from his work outs at his favorite gym, he was in great physical shape for a man about to turn 45 years old.
Penelope’s son Jimmy Pritchard was a college student going for his Master’s in Business management degree.
He was also tall like his dad but had longer black hair and his mother’s green eyes and facial features. He was a sporty type and ran track for the college he was attending.
Penelope Pritchard was a beautiful woman of 5’8’, thin build, with beautiful blondish brown hair and dark green eyes.
With her perfect facial features she looked much like a pretty little doll you’d
give a child. She was younger than her husband Richard, about 33 years old.
She was great at gardening and knew flowers like an expert. Raised from childhood to grow and maintain flower gardens of all types by her mother’s gardener, and sometimes lover Eduardo Penelope learned a lot about raising plants and flowers of all kinds.
Looking out at her landscape around her new home she became a little depressed, and wasn’t very happy with the way it all looked to her, it seemed so plain and un-kept, she knew she had to do something about it before the neighbors started to spread their little rumors about her.
‘I must have a gardener to help me with the trees, plants, shrubbery, and flowers’, she said to Richard. Richard always gave in to Penelope and said, ‘Hire whoever you need, but I don’t want just anybody who may be inexperienced caring for our property.’ ‘Get someone your friends know and use all the time,’ he said.
Penny went to her local Palmist (palm reader) to see what her future held and maybe guide her with her ‘mystic ways’ to finding a good gardener. Madame Clare, the palmist after reading Penelope’s palms, looked strangely at her and said, ‘Your life will grow short soon, and your flower fetish will be the death of you.’
Penelope re-canted, ‘My flower fetish as you call it has been great to me and won me many awards.’ The palmist said nothing, but informed Penny (Penelope’s nickname) about a well-known man from China called Mr. Yin, who had a green thumb and was the best gardener in town.
Penny was ecstatic and asked Madame Clare for Mr. Yin’s phone number and address. Madame Clare handed his business card to her reluctantly, saying, ‘If you continue with your plans, it will be the end of you. ‘‘You’ve been warned!’
Penny stared at the palmist then left, still wondering what she meant, but really not caring she then headed for the address of Mr. Yin.
