What really goes on inside nudist clubs and resorts? Are nudists actually the eccentric weirdos, perverts and hedonists that many Americans believe they are? What kind of people become nudists and why do they choose the nude lifestyle? This objective, straightforward look at American nudist culture answers these questions and more. The book aims to foster better understanding of one of the most misunderstood and unfairly maligned cultures in American society by answering common questions and dispelling some of the persistent myths that surround the nudist and naturist lifestyle.

About the Author

With the 1960s came a major shift away from many of the more conservative cultural values of past generations. As a result, significant liberalization in American culture, attitudes, and lifestyles has taken place over the intervening decades. A number of social taboos, especially those relating to sexuality and alternative lifestyles, were relaxed or disappeared altogether. Remarkably, however, the nudity taboo has remained stubbornly entrenched in American culture. The prudish attitudes towards full nudity held by the majority in America have changed very little from those of the 1950s

In spite of the fact that Nudism and Naturism have been practiced in the U.S. for more than eight decades, nudity continues to make most Americans feel decidedly uncomfortable, so the nudist subculture is still far from mainstream. Nudists and their lifestyles remain largely misunderstood by members of clothed society. Nudists, more often than not, find themselves maligned, ridiculed, and scorned. They are even the subject of both active opposition and open hostility.

Lacking little in the way of real, factual knowledge about Nudism, the average non-nudist in this country typically views the lifestyle through a lens clouded by misconceptions, stereotypes, and misinformation. Nudists are often perceived as eccentric weirdos at best, and a disgusting group of immoral perverts at worst.

One aim of this book is to educate; to lift the veil that often shrouds nudist culture. It presents a straight-forward, factual explanation of what Nudism is actually about from the perspective of a practicing nudist. Along the way, it lays to rest some of the most persistent myths and misconceptions about nudists.

I am under no illusion that a book such as this will change the opinions of those who have their minds made up that Nudism is bad, immoral, or sinful. Instead, the focus is on those who are open-mind enough to give a fair hearing to a rational and reasoned explanation. My hope is that at least some who read this book will come away with more understanding of what Nudism and Naturism are really about; thus they will be moved to show greater tolerance toward those Americans who consider the lifestyle an enjoyable, meaningful, and healthy way to live.

For those who may be considering giving Nudism a try, another goal of this book
