About this ebook

NAACP nominee and bestselling author Beverly Jenkins returns to the charming town of Henry Adams, Kansas—a place that always feels like home—in this heartwarming story of family, friendship, and the surprises hidden in our lives.

Henry Adams has had its fair share of drama ever since Bernadine Brown bought the town with her divorce settlement. Now just when things are starting to settle down, it’s about to get crazy again . . .

Cephas Patterson doesn’t just want to be left alone—if you dare step onto his property, he’ll meet you with a shotgun and a warning to stay away from his gold. He reminds Zoey of the lonely time she spent living on the streets, so she quietly begins leaving him small offerings. But then Cephas dies and leaves a saddlebag of gold—to Zoey.

And that’s not all. Zoey’s parents are going through a trial separation, her former BFF Devon is giving her fits, and friend Crystal has run away from home. Then there’s Bernadine’s mean-spirited baby sister who has arrived unexpectedly, and an ongoing battle with a neighboring town is about to heat up.

Will Henry Adams ever be the same again?

Returning to Henry Adams, KS will always pull at your heartstrings, especially when the children are at the center of the story. In this installment, 10 year-old Zoey Garland is the major heroine as she makes efforts to befriend a hermit at the same time as she is concerned with the state of her parents' marriage. The spirit of this your girl is struggling with her desire to help others as well as holding her family together. The gentleness of the stories from Henry Adams are truly a "Blessing" because the reader sees how goodness triumphs.

There are blessings in Henry Adams, but there is trouble, too. Zoey comes into some good fortune, but it is not without its problems. Bernadine has the task of helping her younger sister finally grow up, even though she fights it every step of the way. Crystal also has some growing up of her own to do. This series is highly entertaining with its engaging characters and interesting plot.

The saga of Henry Adams, Kansas continues. Although it’s a near perfect little town, it is not exempt from problems. Roni and Reg are sailing through difficult marital waters and their foster child Zoey believes it’s her fault. Zoey has taken it upon herself to check on a recluse who lives just out of town, whether he wants her help or not. The mayor of neighboring Franklin is doing everything she can to sabotage the new grocery store in Henry Adams… and Devon, foster son of Mayor Trent July and his wife Lily is still being an unmitigated brat, much to the consternation of his former best friend Zoey. The woman behind the town’s recent revival, Ms. Bernadine Brown, gets an unwelcome visit from her newly divorced and obnoxious sister Diane – and it appears as if Diane plans to stay. She is able to get on Bernadine’s nerves, opening old wounds in a way only a sister can. Readers of this series know, however, that everything will turn out satisfactorily … that’s how things work in Henry Adams. I just love this series and am working my way through it in somewhat random order, based on when I can get the books through interlibrary loan. Only two left to read, and I’m sad about that … now I’ll have to content myself with one a year from the looks of it.
