      What's the Crossroads Universe?

      Yeah, can't blame you for wondering. The Crossroads Universe is a playground that's under construction. It consists of thousands of worlds all connected by a space-time phenomenon, something like a stable dimensional rift, which allows passage between worlds. All sentient lifeforms that are sufficiently advanced and able to understand the concept of the Crossroads have formed an alliance, which is governed by the Charter. Each world has different rules regarding travel, trade, and such. And just so you know, there are a whole bunch of other stories in my WIP file that are set in the Crossroads Universe. They'll show up soon... ish. Soonish. Yeah.

      The barkeep stopped him on the way upstairs at the end of another long, disheartening day of searching.

      Got a letter for you.

      A letter? Who left it?

      The barkeep shrugged. Dunno, some kid.

      Huh. Heath accepted the rolled-up piece of vellum and went upstairs, to the room they'd shared. He sat on the bed and started picking his way through the rather ornate letters, wishing he could read better.

      Over the last week, the letter began, I have grown fond of your lover.
