The Easter Bunny isn't Real...and Neither is Jesus - Oscar Arias

    INTRODUCTION

So my book has somewhat of a controversial title.  Of course, it’s only controversial to those readers who are Christians (and perhaps some that take the Easter Bunny WAY too seriously).

Those of you that are Christians might wonder what is the point of this book.

The best answer I can give is that the book exists simply to point out that there really is no difference between belief in the Easter Bunny and belief in Jesus.  Neither mythological character exists.  In other words, I plan to show that belief in Jesus is just as much of a nonsensical proposition as belief in the Easter Bunny.  Great, third paragraph in and I already managed to offend a portion of my readers. I suppose I can’t please everyone!

One of the topics I cover in this book are the competing theories on who Jesus actually was.  Believe it or not, there is even some question if he existed it all.  If you grew up in a fairly closed Christian church community or family, you may not have been told that these competing theories and viewpoints even existed.

There is one thing that the leaders of the world’s big three monotheistic religions have in common, and that is hatred of doubt.  Doubt leads to questioning, questioning leads to knowledge, and knowledge leads to discovery.  These religious leaders fear that this discovery will inevitably lead to atheism, and they are probably right!

I hope that reading this book will give just a little taste of this discovery.  Enough for you to crave more and seek out the truth of things using logic, reason and science instead of superstitions, prayers, holy water, and incense.  My goal is to make the journey to discovery as entertaining as possible.

At any rate, if you haven't been able to figure it out yet, I'm an atheist.

People often wonder why some atheists like me even bother talking about religion at all.  What they don’t seem to realize is that (at the moment) Christians make up around 83% of the population of the United States. (Per a poll done by ABC news).  A very vocal minority within that 83% insist on trying to pass laws simply based on their beliefs.  Conversely, if this group of far right Christians don’t like something that they feel goes against their beliefs, they try to legislate it out of existence.
