About this ebook

Beautifully drawn illustrations pair with great storytelling in this glimpse into the life of Francis of Assisi
In lively prose and folksy paintings, Tomie dePaola gives a glimpse into the life of Francis of Assisi. After witnessing his father disrespect a beggar, Francis comes to forsake his worldly possessions and travel from village to village helping the poor and sheltering animals. dePaola’s recognizable artistic style and episodic telling of events in the life of Francis are accessible to young readers, and the humble tales of the lives of the saints are told with tenderness and reverence.

This is a fixed-format ebook, which preserves the design and layout of the original print book.

Personal Response: I chose this book because I've read other titles by Tomie de Paola, but I was dissapointed. The illustrations were lovely, but the text wasn't very engaging. I know the plot is based on a religious story, but it was written in an incohesive, almost episodic way. I don't think young children would enjoy this book.Curricular Connection: I wouldn't chose this book to use in a school or library curriculum. A child could read it on their own and discuss it at school.
