    Preface

"But oppression can drive the wise one into madness...."

    Ecclesiastes 7:7

Prison is a place for those of us who made wrong choices and were subsequently unable to abide by guidelines governed by a free society. Despite the bad choices we’ve made, we retain the ability to turn a negative situation into something positive.

Prison life is very difficult to cope with at times. We, as prisoners, experience sadness, loneliness, and, often times, anger.

We endure good days and bad days, but most importantly we get through them. Incarceration does not mean that our life is over because we made the choice to have our freedom forfeited, it does however, mean that we have been placed in a microcosm of a world predicated on racism, injustice and prison politics. Although many of us find ourselves under a blanket of oppression meted out by overbearing prison guards and inmates alike, we can still find ways in which we can do time with dignity and respect and a sense of self worth.

Colors of Oppression best describes the ups and downs of prison life. I speak from firsthand experience regarding practical prison survival suggestions. These lessons will assist not only those doing time but anyone interested in knowing about the dynamics of prison.
