    Foreword

I met Lynn Macwhinnie in 1996, a few weeks after I started at the Bach Centre. I was a beginner in Bach remedy education, a field she was already skilled in, and I was glad to be able to rely on her experience and wisdom. In truth, I have never stopped relying on them and as the Bach Centre’s education programmes have grown, Lynn’s input, advice and hard work have proved crucial on many occasions.

Lynn’s career as a Bach teacher has taken her to Europe, North America, the Middle East, Australia, New Zealand and Asia. She has taught and inspired thousands of people, many of whom have gone on to train as practitioners or teachers themselves. But it’s not only the breadth and depth of experience that make her such a fantastic ambassador for Dr Bach’s work; what is significant too is that she does what she teaches. Everything comes from within. As she writes in this book, we have to do the work on ourselves first.

This book is straightforward, helpful and constructive, just like its author. You are in safe hands here.

    Soul-sized steps

Despite all the spiritual teachings freely available to so many of us on this planet, we still have wars, chaos and destruction fuelled by power struggles, greed, anger, hostility and fear. What if the Bach flower remedies could play a greater part in healing the world and be used to ease the turmoil that must be in the hearts and minds of so many?

The reality is that as much as we might want to change others, we can only change ourselves. We have to begin from where we are within us. What we hear about in the world today is reflected in our personal and professional lives too. We are a microcosm of the macrocosm. Our anger, frustration, jealousy, disappointment, hurt, loss, despair and fears contribute to the soup of emotions that are evident in our communities and the nature of our tribal conditioning. We are each as much a part of the problem as we are of the solution. What would it be like if we spent more time responding to the call of our soul and discovered how to connect and communicate with others from a place of greater emotional wisdom, love and compassion? It is possible.

Fascinating discoveries in neuroscience reveal that there is plasticity to the neural pathways of nerve cells in our brain, and therefore the potential to develop new pathways. However, we are creatures of habit. We can see this reflected in our daily routines such as always travelling the same way to work or dropping off
