    Geneviève Côté was born in Montreal in 1964. For as long as she can remember, she has always wanted to be an illustrator. It seemed considerably easier than becoming an astronaut, which was her second choice. Over the last fifteen years, she has illustrated a wide variety of subjects—serious, funny, or frankly bizarre—for publications like The New York Times, the Boston Globe and Utne Reader. She has also worked for various advertising agencies in Toronto, Montreal, and Melbourne. Illustrating children’s books, however, is what she loves best of all. Her work has appeared in Communication Arts, Print, Critique, and American Illustration, and has earned her several awards. She lives in Montreal, Quebec.

      Two best friends each long to be like the other in this endearing picture-book for younger readers. "I wish I were just like you," they each say, envisioning a transformation that will paint them bright pink or palest white, give them a tail as curly as a lemon twist or as fluffy as cotton candy, make them bold or dainty. But in the end, this rabbit and pig discover that it is best to be themselves, and that it is their differences which make their friendship worthwhile...With less than 150 words, Genevieve Côté's simple narrative has a direct, appealing quality, and her charming illustrations showcase the back-and-forth "dialogue" between her two characters. With a palette dominated by pink, white and brown, the whimsical artwork draws the reader in, making Me and You a pleasure to peruse.

      Two friends, a rabbit and a pig, want to be like each other, but end up discovering they love each other the way they are, instead. The text and art of this book give it a sweet and happy feel. The theme of this book is to be yourself, but with a special emphasis on loving your friends for who they are, as well.

      Very sweet illustrations. Very simple, short read aloud, Pig wants to be a rabbit and rabbit wants to be a pig, so they dress like each other, and then decide being themselves is the best thing of all.

      An adorable story about appreciating your own differences and individuality. The simplistic, yet beautiful artwork adds a warm, soft touch to the already sweet story.

      Personal Response:This is a wonderful book for talking about how each person is unique and special. We often look at other people and wish we could be more like them. However, the rabbit and the pig teach us that while it is nice to appreciate the wonderful things in other people, we also need to love ourselves just the way we are. The text and illustrations were both very simple and yet when I read it to my three year old, it kept her attention. Curricular or Programming Connections:Great for discussing the differences between people and yet emphasizing how important differences are. What would the pig not be able to do anymore if he became a rabbit? and vice versa? What do we like about ourselves that we would never want to change?
