About this ebook

In Volume 4, From Understanding Comes Healing, you are being challenged to step beyond the passive stage of learning and start challenging yourself to face and change the patterns within you that are keeping you in darkness. At some point internal learning has to turn into external use. In other words, you have to start Becoming what you’re learning. To truly learn something is to apply what you have learned to yourself and your life. And for those things that are in darkness, the path of accepting that the changes have to come from within you is one of the biggest steps toward moving beyond the dark places that control your conscious and unconscious choices. Seeing yourself is just the beginning; from there the journey moves towards a place of acceptance and the courage to make different choices in your life.

The Art of Energy Healing Volume Four From Understanding Comes Healing - Susan Diane Matz

    Preface

This book takes a more personal look at energetic dynamics. It works with the information brought forth in the first three Volumes and adds on a more personalized look at how you behave, react and create your own reality.

Each Volume is a general guide to going within and understanding both yourself, and the world you live in. There is so much information to bring forth; I have often told students I could write an entire book on each individual chakra, let alone all of the other layers in the Energy System, the human consciousness and Universal Principles. But just writing out technical information is a solution to very few problems, if any. And your life was set up to have a certain degree of problems that become learning experiences for you. So passing on volumes and volumes of technical information will not necessarily help anyone. But bringing forth information that can be used as tools for self-understanding through the process of self-discovery is another matter!

This is what I have done in this set of books. They are learning tools to help guide you within yourself, where you will discover what is Truth and what is not, on your own. It is not my job to define what your soul is or God, but it is my job to help you separate out what in you is in Truth and what is an illusion of the Truth caught up in Shadow. But you, along with everyone else in this world, are on your own unique journey. There is no recipe for life, recipe for healing, or recipe for self-discovery. Everything outside of Self is a tool to help you go within and forge your own pathway. When you stop looking for answers or techniques is when you will relax more inwardly and be able to go deeper into what it all means for you.

For those of you who have come this far, may you find what you seek in at least some of this material.

    God Bless,

    Susan Matz

    The Healing Journey

The journey towards healing, towards any form of self-exploration is a journey of your consciousness. Your physical body is already enlightened. Your mind is part of your physical body and is also enlightened; your consciousness is another story.

Consciousness is the energy that flows through the brain and holds awareness, understanding and knowledge. When your consciousness is coming from your Lower Self, it is limited and false; when it is coming from your Higher Self, it’s in Truth and expansive. When you’re consciousness is attached to your Lower Self, your mind is filled with factoids, logic, false beliefs and limitations from your Shadow Self. Your mind is very busy when it’s connected to your Lower Self because the Shadow bombards the brain with constant input as a way of keeping it so occupied it never discovers the Higher Self. When your mind is in alignment with your Higher Self, it becomes consciously aware, filled with concepts (versus limited beliefs), comprehensive awareness (versus limited facts), able to see things from the big picture angle, compassionate, non-judgmental and above all…quiet.

The word journey implies that a person is going somewhere, body and all. To work with this word in energetic terms you have to broaden the definition to encompass the consciousness which journeys through the soul levels, not the physical. You don’t have to get anywhere to become enlightened. The journey is all within. In the process of healing a person works very hard, but the work is not mental nor is it physical. It involves focus and awareness.

Focus is the ability to direct your consciousness towards something specific, like focusing on why you’re so angry at a certain person, what’s really going on in your relationship, or why you are bored at your job. When focus is coming from your Higher Self, your consciousness goes inward where your mind quiets, your Energy Field stays undefended, and you go into a state of awareness. Awareness is the ability to be conscious from your Core Essence level, in other words the energy that is doing the focusing is coming directly from your Essence. When focus comes from your Lower Self, you go into the Defense System using one or more of the five characterologies to push your energy outward with the goal of controlling or distorting something. When your consciousness is in alignment with your Higher Self, you are in focused awareness of whatever you choose to put your energy towards.

Focused awareness can sound simplistic in theory, but in reality, for most people, it’s pretty hard. The difficulty has many layers to it but the most prevalent one is a person’s Shadow taking over their mind and keeping the consciousness so occupied that they don’t hear the calling of their Higher Self. People become trapped by their own minds, passively allowing their consciousness to be overtaken by their Shadow Self, which simply turns around and controls them by telling them what to do all the time. And doing is what the Shadow does best, keeping a person obsessively busy, both in thoughts and actions that just cycle them in their Shadow. This is why a common question people ask themselves is, What should I be doing now? because they are so used to being told to do something from their own Shadow Self. If a person was in their Higher Self, they would not be thinking about what they should do because they are not looking for direction; they are creating and living life each moment from a state of self-creation.

Most people get way too caught up in mental reasoning, believing that there are answers to everything, and if they can just find the right answer, they will have complete understanding. But understanding is really the ability to comprehend something, and to comprehend anything fully you have to be able to take it in on all levels of your Being, not just your mind. Mental reasoning and logic are an important element to comprehension, but they are just a fraction of what is involved in the process. True understanding can only be found when the mind surrenders into the Higher Self consciousness, allowing the learning process to come from a much broader place with a comprehension ability that surpasses you as an individual. When knowledge comes out of the Lower Self, it is extremely limited and not in Truth. Knowledge is only complete and in Truth when found through your Higher Self, which comprehends everything on a much larger scale. Knowledge connected to your Higher Self brings you into a place of True understanding. The rest is just information running around your head that cannot be utilized and is often not even Truth.

The Shadow Self is obsessed with recreating itself, and in this obsession it only cares about itself. It sees you simply as a vessel to carry its consciousness energy. All of the levels of the Shadow are really one big inner child filled with selfish, self-fulfilling, self-absorbed intentions. Since Shadow energy does not go back into the Core Essence, it is continually cycling itself as a way to stay alive. Because of this cycling it holds a very limited understanding of everything, surrounded by an active False Image that keeps you from seeing what you don’t see and knowing what you don’t Know.

Core Essence energy comes into the body through the consciousness, bringing with it revitalized energy from the soul level every second of life. It never cycles. It explores life, owns its experiences, then goes back into the soul level to be re-born with more understanding and a deeper connection to God. It does this at a rate of about ten trillion times per second. Your Core Essence energy sees things through open and expanded eyes, experiencing and participating in life through your physical body, which is the vessel for it to interact act in the world, but it is your consciousness that absorbs that interaction and grows from your life experiences. Your Shadow Self would have you go through life detached, numb and changing as little as humanly possible. Your Essence on the other hand is all about evolution, growth and expansion. Standing in the same place cycling is not on the menu in your Core Essence.

Evolution is not about going somewhere. It is about standing still and allowing yourself to journey inward to your Higher Self in order to be in alignment (which means on the same wavelength) as your Core Essence. The more you are in alignment with your Core Essence, the more your conscious awareness becomes one with your soul’s awareness. In this place people expand with their own light. Life’s journey is not about getting somewhere, but rather standing in one place and expanding. The more expanded a person becomes, the more in alignment with God they become. The more a person is running around (physically, emotionally or mentally) trying to get some place, the farther into their Shadow they run. Enlightenment truly comes from within, and it is your consciousness that is making the journey inward, not your mind or your body.

    Facing Your Distortions

In order for you to take anything in all the way to your center, your Core Essence, you have to get past all seven levels of your Shadow Self consciousness. This is usually no easy feat, as those seven levels have a lot of pre-programmed thoughts and actions that you are used to following without question.

Most people, if not everyone, have some pretty large parts to their psyche that are on autopilot, never questioning your actions or why you believe what you believe. People mindlessly think, which is really just mentally cycling, all day long. This mindless cycling becomes pre-programmed mindless actions. Tragically, you could go through your whole life without ever being conscious of what you are actually thinking and doing.

When you’re surrounded by energy that is cycling in Shadow, it’s like being surrounded by a thick fog. You can’t really see what’s going on. You only have a washed-out perception of reality. In order for your mind to really understand something, your emotions to really feel something, and your physical body to really experience something, all the layers in your fog have to be penetrated by reality. Reality has to get through your fog and into your conscious awareness, otherwise your mind is just cycling, your emotions are just acting out in drama, and your body is numb.

In Shadow, you are not experiencing reality, but rather reacting to a distorted view of reality. This is why you can snap at someone who makes a comment that you think is attacking and in judgment of you. But in reality it was a casual, neutral comment that was not attacking, judging, or even directed at you. Now you are judging and attacking the other person for something they didn’t even do, and they proceed to turn around and counter-attack you. All of this drama and aggression is based on your misperception of what was really going on. You were not experiencing reality when you heard them speaking to begin with; you were in your fog which distorted Truth into something it could use to create more Shadow Self energy, in this case, aggression. What was being said, and what you took in was not the same thing.

Your Shadow Self is always seeking to create more Shadow energy. The two most common things it does is to sit back and let you react from your distorted sense of what’s really going on, or sit back and watch you freeze up and not take any action. Either way creates more darkness in you, and around you.

The ability to be here, but not be in reality is why people tend to have such delayed time in both realizing the Truth of what just happened, and being able to take some kind of action. It can take you years to see the reality of something that you were involved in simply because you live in a fog. A fog carefully produced and maintained by your Shadow Self every day of your life designed to make sure you do not see or experience reality, and not just with the big things, but with everything. And it makes sure that the only things you do feel or understand is what your Shadow Self is telling you to feel and understand. So just because you feel abandoned by someone does not mean that in reality you have been abandoned. And just because you think someone likes you, does not mean that they really do. They could be using you. They could even hate you, but you’ll only Know the Truth when you get your consciousness out of your Shadow Self and into your center where you can face the reality of both yourself and what’s really going on around you. Your perceptions are not accurate. Your Shadow Self distorts them. What you hear and see is usually not what is being said or done. Facing what is not real is the first step in being able to face what is real.

A common phenomenon is that people don’t act until well after something is experienced. This is why people can appear calm at the time of a painful event, but afterwards they will go into an extreme emotional response. This isn’t just referring to trauma, like hearing about someone you love getting in a bad car accident, but also the day-to-day events, like your manager giving you a bad review. Many people walk out of abusive work meetings and it takes them days (or years) before their emotions come out, forcing them to face that they really were verbally abused way back when. Unfortunately, during the abuse they were frozen and un-reactive, so all they did at the time was sit there and take it. Their energy got stuck in the fog of their Shadow Self, preventing them from fully experiencing the reality of what was happening when it was actually happening. They were being abused, but it did not register at the time of the meeting. It may not register for years.

This lack of experiencing reality in any given moment builds up a lot of numbness, passive enabling of dark behaviors, and a very large, but quiet Victim Consciousness. Well, quiet until it explodes out, that is. Where do you think all your internalized anger goes? All that holding back has to come out some place, and it usually explodes out in rage, crawls out in passive/aggressiveness, or leaps out in controlling behaviors. The more you are not in reality, the more you don’t deal with what you’re really experiencing and just store it away, only to have it leak out in unhealthy ways later on. A good example is a couple arguing about who’s doing more housework. They’re not really arguing about the housework. They’re arguing because they have so many repressed feelings that weren’t dealt with when they were actually happening, or they have feelings about things that never really happened but is a distorted perception from their Shadow Self. Either way, the couple is arguing about some inane thing as a way to get out their repressed feelings, instead of talking about things when they actually happen.

Anger is the natural by-product of not facing reality. When experiences are stored away, the energy of those experiences twists in on itself causing anger. There is only so much storage space in your Energy Field, and eventually everything has to find a way out. But if it was stored in Shadow, it usually comes out in Shadow. If it comes out fast, it comes out in aggression. If it leaks out slowly, it usually just repeats itself over and over again, which is why it’s so important to look at your patterns when you are trying to discover what’s in your Shadow Self. The thing to remember is that it’s hard to see your own repeating patterns because they’re acted out in the fog of your Shadow Self, so it becomes important to listen to what other people have to say about you. I’m not saying that you should form your opinion of yourself through others, but rather pay attention to repetitive external observations like, You look tired, or Are you upset about something? When something is said to you several times a week or a month, it’s usually very True, even if it doesn’t resonate. This is where faith comes in, because much of what is True about yourself is not going to resonate because of the fog you live in. You do not see your own dark behaviors, but others do. In order to face the reality of what you are really like, you have to face the reality that you have a distorted image of yourself.

It’s common for people to hear things, but not take it in until much later, if at all. Mentally, their brain is just holding what was said, not letting it process all the way through. This keeps people from being conscious of what’s going on in their own mind. Often, a person only takes something in through their fogginess only when another person directly challenges them by saying something like, Wow, do you get what that really means for you?

And physically, how many times have you sat down to relax at the end of a day only to find your back is killing you. Or you might find that you have a cut of some kind that is bothering you. You didn’t just start having back pain when you sat down, and that cut happened hours ago. You just weren’t consciously aware of them until you started to relax into yourself and actually feel your own body. Just because you are awake and walking around in the world does not mean that you are aware of what is going on.

On some level, everyone has a bit of Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder simply because they are not being completely present with what is happening to them in the moment. You often get physically, emotionally or mentally hurt on a daily basis, and you just aren’t present with it. So whatever happens just gets stored up inside and has to be dealt with later, because it will never go away on its own. Nothing goes away on its own. Everything in your life is a tool for learning who and what you really are. Everything has to be faced and dealt with at some point. It will not just go away because you consciously, or unconsciously, decided not to deal with it. The more you avoid, the more you store up inside of you, blocking your mind, emotions and physical body from feeling anything real. It’s a viscous cycle. You go into denial to avoid facing reality, and then that denial creates even more denial. This is why the more a person avoids, the more numbed out (and often depressed) they become. The more you live in your fog, the more fogginess you create, separating you farther and farther from reality. How did you not know your partner was having an affair when everyone else did? How did you not know you were being fired when everyone else did? How did you not know that person was using you when everyone else did? How did you not know that you were being lied to? Because the only thing you’re seeing is the fog right in front of you. Reality is beyond that fog.

The most common things you are not present with are things like being judged, shamed, attacked, seduced or manipulated. This is because everyone’s Shadow Self does these behaviors to other people, so it zones you out when they’re being done to you as a way of avoiding the direct mirror of your own dark behavior. Do unto others as you would have done to yourself… is a very accurate saying because you really are doing to others what is being done to you in some way, shape or form. It’s your own personal fog that keeps you from seeing this pattern. In other words, what you don’t see is what you are doing. And to take it a step further, what you see others doing that really angers you, is what you are not seeing yourself do on a regular basis.

    In general,
