The use of cartoons has long been used to make us laugh; make a political point, to draw people's attention to a particular topic and as a diversion from the troubles in our lives.

Drawings and simple illustrations trace their roots to the cave drawings of civilizations that existed thousands of years ago; these ancient cave dwellers painted simplistic sagas of their daily lives, showing various animals they hunted and crops they harvested. Ancient Egyptian paintings and hieroglyphics vividly depicted on the walls of temples and monuments leave an historical record of these ancient people's daily lives.

From political satire to pure enjoyment, the cartoon and comic approach to art has helped keep people involved and has provided an accepted form of entertainment for all.

The comic movement as an art form took shape as a comment on society in general and current social and political events specifically. In more modern times the comic strip, comic books, and single cartoons and comic animations for television and film, have been more in vogue.
