The sun is shinning brightly. The day feels warm. John wanted to go to town! So he walks down a long dirt road to the home of Jo, on the hill by the creek. He raised his right hand.
Knock, Knock, Knock,
went the sound on the door. Soon Jo opened it up. John saw her standing in front of him in her little green hood and coat.
Come on,
he said, let's go to town!
I love walking to town,
said Jo. Oh, the day feels so good, I think that we shall carry Spot along with us.
Fine then, fine, lets call Spot to come with us,
said John.
Spot,
yelled Jo, "come with us! We are going to town!
Bow! Wow,
barked Spot as he ran to meet them.
See John,
yelled Jo, Spot can not wait to come along with us!

said Spot as he raced out to find the stick.
Soon the three come to a creek.
This creek is close to town,
said Jo.
If we listen we can hear the water flowing over the water wheel of the grist mill,
said John!
I think that I hear the kid's parade,
said Jo! "Hear the flutes?
Hear the lute? Hear the drums and the tin cans? Hear the squeeze box of the Hurdy-Gurdy man?"
Bow wow,
says Spot! Bow wow! Bow wow wow!
Spot races toward the grist mill and the gypsy tent by the mill store. Jo and John race after him.
Wait for us, Spot! Wait for us,
they both yell as they run!
