The Little Unicorn is a science fiction short story by Carrie Wexford.

No, General Trumaine, that won’t be necessary.
J. Wellington Allen, the gray-haired civilian contractor who had rented the secluded Palmdale warehouse for this top-secret project, escorted the Galactic and Low Earth Orbit Program general and a silent, lean-faced major to the ten-foot-square platform.
Wellington had not expected the GALEOP brass to show up that morning. He paced nervously before his small audience and repeatedly checked his watch.
The general brooded at the empty platform. Is he returning soon?
Yes, sir,
said Wellington. In fifty-two seconds.
And that little box is going to bring him back.
General Trumaine glared at the metal contraption on the left corner of the platform. Why is it covered with butterfly stickers?
Jackson hid our advanced technology in an inconspicuous object—his daughter’s lunchbox—lest it fall into the wrong hands.
