Thanks to my dear friend and colleague writer Luis Del Castillo who encouraged me to keep writing. Having a close friend publishing, definitively gave me the motivation to publish myself.
Thanks to my friend Carolina Flora Diaz for making the cover image of this book. It was a great experience to work with you. You passed the test.
Thanks to Annalysse Padrta for editing my book. As this is my first novel and as a French native speaker, I definitively needed a good editor. I really appreciate your involvement, your sensible and moderate approach and your accuracy. I was more than happy with the final result.

1. The Women of his Life
This story begins in a Psychologist's office in a big city. So as not to cause jealousy among the millions of readers who will get the opportunity to read this story, this could be any big city in the world. But enough joking, let's start seriously. I say seriously because there is nothing more serious than the psychological problems of our era, The Issue
of our century. The story's main character is lying down on the office divan, and ready for the therapy session of the day.
This is a very particular patient. Not made up of meat and bones, but of pages and pages... of paper. You guessed it!... Yes, I'm talking about a book, with as many psychological problems as sheets of paper. This book is called... Book.
Book is a father and a professional. The many aspects of his life worry him a lot, pulled between his personal and professional problems. In his private life he has a complicated personal relationship with his wife, an elegant fashion magazine named Vogue,
and with his rebellious teenage daughter Popstar,
a pop music magazine. In his professional life he has problems with his bossy boss Time,
a news magazine.
-Let's take care of the problems one by one, as it is easier to deal with them this way, -said the Psychologist.
-Let's start with your wife.
The problem Book had with his wife was that she didn't allow him to speak. She talked far too much and in a compulsive manner. This gave Book a hard time. He wrote on his pages all the words he heard in order not to forget them. But he was running out of blank pages and ink to keep writing. In short, his wife tired him. Sometimes, he just wanted to rest and leave pages blank, not writing anything. A few blank pages in the middle of a book wouldn’t hurt anyone. But his wife strongly disagreed. She thought leaving pages blank was a waste. The truth was, Book wanted to write about what made him happy. But having a wife who talked so much didn't leave him with enough time to write about his own thoughts.
His wife kept telling him that if she were to give him the freedom to write about what he wanted, the pages would be filled with stupidities
like football, beer, and naked girls... But Book complained his pages were filled with blame, negative comments, and a list of all the things he promised her he would do, a list left partly unfinished. Over time this forced him to add another problem with a capital P.
This specific problem was called Playboy,
a porn magazine. When his wife Vogue found out about him cheating on her, she called her a bitch, and said:
-What kind of pig are you?! Not even our daughter stopped you from crossing the line! What sort of father are you?!
Herein lies the dilemma. Whose fault was it? For Vogue it was clear; she didn't even bother to ask herself. For Book it was a different story. On one hand he accepted responsibility and felt sorry for what happened with the Playboy. On the other hand he came up with all kinds of excuses to justify his actions and victimize himself. In other words, he didn’t believe it was his fault. There were many factors to take into account to explain why he looked to another woman (magazine) for what he couldn't find in the official magazine (legitimate wife).
Would this have happened if she had given him the freedom to write in his pages what he wanted, if she had let him be himself? Maybe then nobody would be guilty as nothing would have happened. But this is just a supposition and a personal point of view. Nothing can be taken for granted in love, as love is complicated and misleading. Every story is different, and every couple shares their own... In short, love is complex, and it's better to stay away and mind one’s own business. Especially when someone else (Playboy) already got involved where she shouldn't have. The wise psychologist suggested Book continue couples therapy with a friend who was a specialist. Then he said:
-Now let's talk about the other woman of your life, your daughter Popstar.
Book’s teenage daughter had grown up; she was no longer his little princess. She no longer saw him as her hero
and the family house as a fairy-tale castle where she would grow up and get married. She thought her dad was boring. She didn’t listen to him and no longer wanted to get married. All she wanted was to travel the world and enjoy love relationships without compromise. She wanted an exciting life, far away from the fairy-tale castle
family house. The truth was, Book didn't really understand the new generation. In order to be closer to his daughter he tried to be her friend. He started using the same language as her and her friends and wearing cool
and trendy clothes.
He did this to the extent of completely forgetting his role as a father and authority figure in the family. The reality was he was far too old to pretend to be a friend to his teenage daughter. His personal history and experience had nothing to do with what his daughter was experiencing. They lived in two different worlds. Pretending to be her friend was unnatural and inappropriate. His psychologist suggested he cut a few pages from his book and give them to his daughter for her to write her own story, giving her the freedom to travel the world. The psychologist explained that he needed to understand he was not part of her private universe.
The world changes so quickly. Trying to close the gap
is useless. It would be more useful to lend her a few pages and let her come back when she got lost in the big world. It was easy
