The keto diet is another typical fat diet that has been popular for some time now, and people do get remarkable results from it. So what exactly separates the keto diet from any other known diet? Well, majority of these diets in vogue merely tells you to eat and avoid certain types of food, and voila you're on your way to losing the pounds. Of a truth, many of these diets don't really work and make very little sense.
For me, I regard the ketogenic diet as high fat, moderate protein and very low carbohydrate diet, which was specifically designed to treat epilepsy and children back in the 1920s. The depletion of glucose stores in the body requires the body to switch from a glucose metabolism to a ketone metabolism - the secondary energy source that proponents claim allows your body to burn fat for fuel.
The ketogenic diet was specifically created by a physician named Russell Wilder in 1924 to stop seizures in children; it's been an incredibly efficient diet protocol for treating epilepsy. So its therapeutic effectiveness, for this reason, is probably not challenged. Interestingly enough, fasting has been used since ancient Greece to treat epilepsy effectively, but Wilder's original intention was actually to replicate the therapeutic benefits of fasting in a dietary protocol.
