A good book for beginners and intermediate German learners with English knowledge....

Good German practice, but it’s weirdly smutty? The guy who wrote it has weird ideas about relationships and boundaries.

Here is an excerpt of one of the stories:

“Mein Name ist Tanja und ich bin Sekretärin. Montags habe ich immer viel zu tun.”
    ...
“Wenn mein Chef kommt, muss ich ihm einen Gefallen tun. Danach fühle ich mich meistens schlecht.”
    ...
“Montags gehe ich früh ins Bett. Häufig träume ich von meinen Chef. Ich mag meinen Chef, denn er bringt mir häufig Geschenke.”

This describes the Monday of a secretary who must do “favors” for her boss, after which she usually feels bad. But it’s OK! — her boss often brings her gifts.

Another short describes a couple of friends, Jan and Maria, who go on walks every Sunday. On Jan’s 30th birthday, he tells Maria that they aren’t going for a walk that day. Instead, they are staying at her place and “the rest she can imagine”.

Yet another is about a guy who invites his neighbor to a romantic movie. He holds her hand, she gets angry and walks out. He stays behind to watch the movie and describes it as a “very interesting” day.

There is nothing explicit and I find the German to be at an appropriate level for me right now (4 months on Duolingo, so I’m somewhere between beginner and intermediate ), which is why I am giving this 3 stars. But the subject matter can be kinda off-putting and will not be appropriate for all learners. Go into it with your eyes open. Not recommended for young adults.
