The Art of Being Yourself - Sam Webber
For your consideration
It’s not so much that you wish upon a star, it’s just that you carry through with what you wish for. Before we start, we need to go over a little bit of semantics, or meanings for words which will carry through out the rest of this book.
Wishes
A wish is a passing thought. It is something which we all say, I wish I had this
, I wish I had that.
; I wish I were.
I wish I could,
etc. A wish is something that enters our mind, and then leaves it in almost at the same moment. Sometimes, we don’t even wait for the wish to pass through our mind before we start thinking of something else. A wish is something that we would like to have happen to us, but we know, deep within ourselves it never will. It is true, that a wish will never happen to us, because we never give it a second chance.
Hopes
A hope is a wish that lingers. Here we actually think about the possibility of something happening to or for us. We might find ourselves saying, I hope this happens.
I hope that happens.
I hope it could be true!
A hope is something that we dwell on even for the briefest of moments. If hope is given a chance, you might even begin to think that what you are hoping for may, possibly, come true.
Beliefs
A belief is a feeling from deep down within our soul, where we realize in our mind that something we want will come true. Here is the time that we can tell ourselves and others that we have a conviction to see our hopes through to fruition. We say things like, I believe this.
I believe that.
I believe, I will.
This type of definite statement to ourselves and to others can only be challenged by life itself. Because to have such belief means, you are going to work towards your eventual goal.
Faith
Unfortunately, the word Faith
has been delineated to the point that it almost always refers to a religious belief. But in this scenario, faith will refer to a belief that has been taken up by the individual who now will work towards that goal with all their heart and soul until it becomes a reality. Faith takes the thought of a goal, accepts the belief that the goal will be acquired and sets into motion a way to accomplish what is desired. Faith is not only the idea that you believe in what you’re doing, you expect it to come true and you work towards it.

Life is not fair
In beginning this book, we might as well start with perhaps the most obvious and yet maybe the least discussed topic concerning life. No matter who you are what family you were born to, what country or geographical area that you live in, each of us will have to make our own way through life. In the preamble of the Constitution of the United States it declares that all men are equal
in their quest of life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness
what this means, is that every person has the right to succeed for themselves, but that no one is guaranteed a free ride.
All people have the same freedom to pursue whatever type of life they desire.
No matter where we start in our journey through life, each of us will find at some point that we do not get what we desire. Our course through life is as though we are a growing tree, with branches reaching towards the sun. As we spread ourselves out, life seems to act as though it was a gardener and with many cuts, chops off our burgeoning limbs and strikes us bare. At the time it seemed to be very detrimental to our growth and progression. We tend to get depressed and cry over the things that might have been.
Yet in the end, that pruning will prove to help us grow a better fruit: the person you become.
In those times when life seems to be most unfair, if you take a step back and look at your situation, perhaps what you thought you wanted, you didn’t need. What is considered wisdom comes from being able to look back at the life you’ve lived, the experiences you’ve had while taking into consideration the experiences of others, then applying it to the future. As you’ve gotten older, you may be able to look back at the times when you were stopped from pursuing a specific course of action and found that had you continued on, you would be in a considerably worse place than you are today.
There are those who cry about the awards, trophies or kudos that they never received because it was given to another. It is a sore point in the competitive nature of men and women to lose at anything. Yet those who hold a grudge and continue to cry about their loss but never do anything more to win again are those who will lapse into whining about life’s inequities.
It takes a strong person to look at his or her loss, figure out where they went wrong, and then move in a direction that will help them meet their objective. Sometimes, staying the course will get you what you want while at other times, choosing a different direction will earn you what you truly desire. These types of life altering choices can only be made when they are presented. So it is up to you, to either cry about your loss or to chart another course.
There are those who believe that everything in life should be fair and that everyone should get what they want. If you are one of those unfortunate souls, you will be sadly disappointed. It is a noble thought to think that all people can rise up to a particular standard of fairness in the world, yet throughout history it is been proven that there have always been the haves
and the have-nots.
No matter how hard a society tries to equalize the value, worth or appreciation of its citizens, there will always be a disparity. It is a sad fact that some people rise as cream to the top and others fall like chaff to the bottom,
